Marco Trungelliti win June 2018 Unsung Hero of the Month

The people, and we use that term advisedly as it was very few, have spoken, and tennis hero Marco Trungelliti has won June 2018 Unsung Hero of the Month.

It seems so long ago, but this is the obscure tennis player who was originally failed to qualify for the 2018 French Open, but got a late recall and drove 1000km with his family to Paris to play and win his first round match.

He made it due to Nick Kyrgios pulling out, which was sad as it denied us the ultimate Grand Slam Jerk….Match up between perennial Jerk of the Month nominated Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios.

But a silver lining of Marco Trungelliti and his journey gives us an interesting tennis story, which is pretty hard to do, and a deserving unsung Hero of the Month winner for June 2018.

HOW WE YOU VOTED

Why was he nominated?

Marco Trungelliti

The Argentine was the lucky loser of French Open Tennis qualifying who drove 1000km the day before to fill in for Nick Kyrgios who pulled out of the French Open. With his family, including his Grandmother, in the car.

He was rewarded for his effort, firstly he was scheduled to play Bernard Tomic, the closest thing to a bye in tennis but still needing to be on court, and he grabbed himself $122K for the win.

Sweet work on that day, sadly he only made it as far as the second round where he was beaten by Marco Cecchinato. But a spot in our Hero of the Month poll too.

What about the rest?

SBS

The traditional broadcaster of the Football World Cup stepped up when required after Optus Sport proved they were incapable of being an exclusive broadcaster of anything.

Sadly as the Group stage finishes, football fans will have to revert back to the App for some games, which will be annoying, and we’ll see if we see anything at all.

Kudos to Lucy Zelic and Craig Foster for doing the hard yards, covering all of the games, when they expected to do the bare minimum.

PNG Kumuls

Fiji went into the Pacific Test red hot favourites against the PNG Kumuls, probably on the back of more NRL experience, a better world ranking, a semi final at the Rugby League World Cup, and Jarryd Hayne. None of them made any difference as the Kumuls thoroughly outplayed the Fiji side and won 26-14. They tore up the first half, and defended strongly in the second half. Hopefully that form boost translates into more PNG Hunters wins.

Socceroos

The Socceroos probably deserved a draw against mighty France, deserved a win over Denmark, and had more than enough chances to get a result against Peru. OK, so we ended up on one point, with just the two penalty goals from Mile Jedinak to show for our campaign, but at least we weren’t disgraced. Sure every person who has the slightest interest in the Socceroos will have an opinion on where to go from here and who is to blame, but we give them a salute for their compeditive showing.

Rene Higuita and Carlos Valderama

Two footballing legends from Colombia, and two gents among our Magnificent Seven Best World Cup Hair, have bobbed up at this year’s World Cup, and if you were paying attention you would have seen them in the crowd for the Colombia v Poland match

No wonder they went on to record a 3-0 win. What could be more inspiring.

Just for appearing at the World Cup at all, we recognise their previous efforts at other World Cup and scorpion kicks whilst saving goals, and hand out a nomination for Hero of the Month.
