A Quick Intrust Super Cup Round 15 Preview

Intrust Super Cup Round 15 kicks off on the unfamiliar time of a Friday this week, the QRL taking advantage of a Broncos free Friday. Should be a great game as ever, and is an important one for both sides on the fringe of Top 6.

Saturday’s TV game sees two teams on either side of the top 6 line, and should be decent viewing. Elsewhere Townsville play the Mackay Cutters, and Wynnum welcome the Falcons.

Sunday afternoon enthusiasts need not worry, as there are three good games to choose from. One is at Pizzey Park for the Bears v Falcons, and the other two are Brisbane based games Easts v Central Capras and Souths Logan v Redcliffe.

Help yourself to a quick preview of Intrust Super Cup Round 15.

Intrust Super Cup Round 14 PREVIEW – MATCH BY MATCH IN 99 WORDS OR SO

FRIDAY 7pm – IPSWICH JETS v PNG HUNTERS
VIEW: Channel Nine @ 1pm

The Ipswich Jets have made one of the more anticipated match ups of the year that little bit more exciting by having it played under lights on a Friday night. Some of the best football I’ve seen has been at North Ipswich Reserve between these two sides, and Friday’s clash should be no difference, perhaps enhanced with both sides desperate for wins to stay in touch with the Top 6.

Both teams sit on 14 points, just 2 points from the Top 6, but their for and against is going against them at the moment. The PNG Hunters in fact are the second lowest scorers in the competition. The Hunters have won three of their last four, and are starting to look better each week with the return of a little more experience. Tries like Adex Wera’s from last weekend help to win games, and is worth a view on the QRL Highlights.

Ipswich have lost their last three since defeating Norths Devils, and are in danger of seeing their 2018 slipping away.

SATURDAY 1:10pm – TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS v NORTHS DEVILS
VIEW: Channel Nine @ 1pm

Another match up of two teams on equal points and beside each other on the ladder. Both teams returned to winning ways last weekend, Tweed Heads getting home in the final minutes with a field goal over Central Capras, and Norths coming from behind to defeat Redcliffe. Tweed Heads have won seven of their last eight, but their third worst for and against doesn’t help their top 6 prospects if they can’t get past the sixth placed Devils this weekend

Interesting to see former Dolphins half Zach Strasser named in the Devils line up. Konrad Hurrell continues his adventure with the Seagulls in the centres.

Teams

Tweed Heads Seagulls

  1. Shaun Carney 2. Ryland Jacobs 4. Konileti Hurrell 3. Brendan Elliot 5. Talor Walters 6. Lindon McGrady 7. Kane Elgey 16. Leilani Latu 9. Eli Levido (c) 10. Maia Sands 11. SATURDAY 6pm – TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS v MACKAY CUTTERS

Another round of Foley Shield is on in Townsville this weekend, with last placed Mackay probably only having this to play for at the moment. Tough gig too, having to play the second placed Townsville Blackhawks in Townsville.

Townsville were the only side in the top 4 to win last weekend, and as a result have got themselves into outright second place. Having the best for and against also helps if Burleigh slip up again this weekend. For Mackay it is a second consecutive tough assignment after defeat in Port Moresby last weekend. They do have NRL quality in Lachlan Coote, and could get former Origin player Justin O’Neill too.

Teams

Townsville Blackhawks

  1. Zachary Santo 2. Jonathon Reuben 3. Levi Dodd 4. Ty Carucci 5. Kalifa Faifai-Loa 6. Shaun Hudson 7. Jaelen Feeney 8. Cade Maloney 9. Krys Freeman 10. Rod Griffin 11. Jake Marketo 12. Andrew Niemoeller (c) 13. Temone Power 15. Jordan Drew 16. Ross Bella 19. Brent Woolf 22. Sione Lousi

Mackay Cutters

  1. Lachlan Coote 2. Yamba Bowie 3. Jack Joass 4. Kurt Wiltshire 5. Dane Francis 6. Nicho Hynes 7. Cooper Bambling 8. Jordan Grant 9. Jayden Hodges 10. Nicholas Brown 11. Shane Wright 12. Brenden Treston 13. Thomas Murphy 14. Sam Murphy 15. Kellen Jenner 16. Lona Kaifoto 17. Bennett Leslie 18. Johnny Faletagoa’i 19. Jye Andersen

SATURDAY 6pm – WYNNUM SEAGULLS v NORTHERN PRIDE

Wynnum finally broke their 2018 Home hoodoo last weekend with a 30-24 win over the Ipswich Jets, and will do well if they double up this weekend. That is because they welcome the Northern Pride, one of the form sides in the competition, and a team who have beaten both Redcliffe and Burleigh on the road this year. Should be plenty entertaining, the Seaguls have two of the Intrust Super Cup’s great try scorers in Daniel Ogden and Delouise Hoeter, and the Pride have Jake Clifford, the competition’s leading point scorer.

Teams

Wynnum Manly Seagulls

  1. Daniel Ogden 2. Peter Gubb 3. Mitch Cronin 4. Delouise Hoeter 5. Edward Burns 6. Patrick Templeman 7. Jayden Berrell 8. Alex Barr 9. Mitchell Moore 10. Max Elliott 11. Salesi Funaki 12. Til Vea 13. Patrick Carrigan 14. Stedman Lefau 15. Mitch Frei 16. Lachlan Lee 17. Keenan Palasia 19. Kalolo Saitaua

Northern Pride

  1. Jack Murphy 2. Murray Taulagi 3. Brett Anderson 4. Bradley Stephen 5. Gideon Gela-Mosby 6. Jordan Biondi-Odo 7. Jake Clifford 8. William Bugden 9. Ryan Ghietti (c) 10. David Murphy 11. Nathan Wales 12. Ethan Lowe 13. Graham Clark 14. Connor Jones 15. Sheldon Powe-Hobbs 16. Darryn Schonig 17. Emry Pere 18. Troy Kapea 19. Jack Campagnolo

SUNDAY 2pm -BURLEIGH BEARS v SUNSHINE COAST FALCONS

Burleigh suffered a rare defeat last weekend in the TV game against the Northern Pride, and will need to get back into winner’s circle this weekend or they could lose the competition lead. It will be tough work too with the Sunshine Coast Falcons in a mini form revival with two straight wins. Once again Sandor Earl has been named for the Sunshine Coast, and should get plenty of support on his way back to rugby league.  Tui Kamikamica could use the game as a great hit out for the upcoming Pacific test.

Teams

Burleigh Bears

1 Kurtis Rowe 2. Troy Leo 3. Sami Sauiluma 4. Henare Wells 5. Tyrone Roberts-Davis 6. Dallas Wells 7. Jamal Fogarty 8. Luke Page (c) 9. Pat Politoni 10. Matt White 11. Hayden Schwass 12. Blake Leary 13. Sam Coster 14. Matthew Robinson 16. Josh Ailaomai 17. Jai Whitbread 18. Jess Savage

Sunshine Coast Falcons

  1. Ryan Papenhuyzen 2. Matt Soper-Lawler 3. Justin Olam 4. Keelyn Tuuta-Edwards 5. Khan Ahwang 6. Caleb Daunt 7. Rhys Jacks 18. Tui Kamikamica 9. Harry Grant 10. Lachlan Timm 11. Christopher Lewis 12. Jacob Hind 13. Liam McDonald (c) 14. Sandor Earl 15. Harrison Muller 16. Lachlan Roe 17. Sam Burns 19. Louis Geraghty

SUNDAY 2pm – EASTS TIGERS v CENTRAL CAPRAS

These two teams lost last weekend but in much different style. Central Capras were beaten in the last few minute by Tweed Heads and Easts Tiger went scoreless against the Blackhawks. That’s after winning a few games to get back into form. With Easts squad they should be higher than their current 11th positions, so need a win against an in form Central Capras to stay in touch with the top 6.. As ever in 2018, Central went close again, but did not quite get home. Hanging onto a lead at Langlands Park would be a great achievement.

Teams

Easts Tigers

  1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Linc Port 4. Conor Carey 3. Shane Neumann 5. Jarrod McInally (c) 6. Billy Walters 7. Brodie Croft 8. Matthew Groat 9. Chris Ostwald 10. Brett Greinke 11. Michael Egan 12. Patrick Kaufusi 13. Jack Svendsen 14. Ollie Olds 15. Ash Little 16. Anton Iaria 17. Harley Aiono 18. Jarred Tuite 19. Brayden Torpy

CQ Capras

  1. Zeik Foster 2. Junior Kirisome 3. Connor Broadhurst 4. Nathan Bassani 5. Chanel Seigafo 6. Maipele Morseau 7. Blake Goodman 8. Oliver Percy (c) 9. Aaron Teroi 10. Jerry Key (c) 11. Bill Cullen 12. Dave Taylor 13. Jamie Hill 14. Darcy Davey 15. Dave Cowhan 16. Peter Rogers 17. Brad Lupi 18. Aaron Flanagan 19. Luke George 20. Jamie Minto

SUNDAY 2pm – SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES v REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS

One final game between two sides right beside each other on the ladder, and these third and fourth sides missed out on an opportunity to close the gap to Burleigh by losing themselves. In fact, the Magpies have lost two in a row, and a third against Redcliffe will start to hurt their chances of a top two finish. You would think there’s a lot of players in these teams that could be fighting for positions in the Queensland Residents team for the big show at the Olympic Stadium next weekend, so that doubles up the importance of the fixture at Davies Park.

Teams

Souths Logan Magpies

1 Corey Allan 2. Benaiah Bowie 3. Marion Seve 4. Dan Russell 5. Paul Rokolati 6. Guy Hamilton 7. Sam Scarlett 8. George Fai 9. Travis Waddell 10. Rhys Melville 11. Brendon Gibb 12. David Fifita 13. Phil Dennis (c) 14. Jordan Scott 15. Simi Fatafehi 16. Daniel Tamou 17. Sam Elliott

Redcliffe Dolphins

  1. Tony Tumusa 2. Jonus Pearson 3. Jeremy Hawkins 4. Moses Pangai 5. Josh Beehag 6. Bryce Donovan 7. Cameron Cullen (c) 8. James Taylor 9. Jake Turpin 10. Toby Rudolf 11. Jamil Hopoate 12. Aaron Whitchurch 13. Sam Anderson 14. Scott Schulte 15. Nathan Watts 16. Tom Geraghty 17. Hugh Pratt
