A Who Cares Guide to Argentina v Iceland World Cup Group D Action

Welcome to the Who Cares Guide to Argentina v Iceland World Cup Group D Action. The Gurgler’s quick and easy guide for the first of the big matches for one on the big names – Messi – at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

We’ve gone to the minimal of effort, so you can go to even less to keep up to date.

Sure you can go to many, far better websites, blogs, and endless TV shows of varying quality, but none will attempt to put it in the style you want. As little effort as possible.

We’ll throw in some barely interesting stats that you can roll off at work, home, or even as you talk to yourself in the car pretending you’re doing your own World Cup podcast.

Conveniently, due to our own apathy, you can come here for both the preview and review. So come back for a review of the game you can use quickly.

So onwards then, to the Argentina v Iceland World Cup Group D Action.

When is it? (AEST)

Saturday 16 July at 11pm

How Should I Watch It?

Should I Stay Up? (Must watch and Stay Up),
Get Up? (Gotta watch live with pre sleep),
Wake Up? (Record and Wake up Normal Time), or
Catch Up? (Check the Score and the Group table and move on)

Stay Up, you’re probably already still doing fist pumps and Lleyton Hewitt C’mons after the Socceroos big win, so keep it going. It could be said that this game would stand alone anyway. It’s gonna be a big night ahead.

The story…

This match provides genuine neutral interest. Argentina are one of the big teams, with arguably (argued by Ronaldo and his fans) the best player on earth in Lionel Messi. But Argentina’s form hasn’t been great. Got through qualifying, but only third, and were flogged by Spain in a recent friendly. But they still have Messi, who must be playing in his last World Cup.

Iceland are the opposite, with all of their players in their first World Cup, as the smallest nation to make the World Cup make their debut. Whether they can continue their giant killing from Euros in 2016 remains to be seen, but they are even stronger now, and did no less than top their qualifying group. And then there’s all the fun of their viking clap to like.

This could be closer than people think.

Bluff your way to World Cup expertise

Argentina went into the final day of South American qualifying still with a chance of being knocked out. They even had an early scare, but Messi got them home. Iceland are the smallest nation to ever make a World Cup,
