The 2017 Gurgler Person of the Year is well under way for another year now and our next nomination is probably the most surprising given they are Tennis Jerks and actually nominated (and doing well vote-wise) in our 2017 Jerk of the Year poll.
The Gurgler’s 2017 Person of the Year is a celebration of the people we think are important or deserving of some much needed limelight, not necessarily the most famous people on the face of the earth, in fact most would have barely heard of some of our nominees.
That is not the case with this nomination of the two Tennis Jerks Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic. They have plenty of limelight, and to be honest don’t deserve anymore, given when they usually bob up in the mainstream it is for being sport’s biggest jerk.
A controversial selection then.
But we can’t deny their impact on our website, their actions give loads of content to write about them. For that we thank them, and why they are nominated for 2017 Persons of the Year.
We don’t expect them to get many votes, certainly not as many as our 2017 Jerk of the Year poll.
2017 PERSON OF THE YEAR – NOMINATION 5
TENNIS JERKS NICK KYRGIOS & BERNARD TOMIC
Tennis Jerks Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic have had a full year, and when we say full year we mean have done a lot to capture the nation’s imagination and websites and blogs across the world.
Certainly not a full year in the case of Bernard Tomic on court, who has barely got past the first round of any tournament he’s played in this year. Jerk. And he didn’t show for the Australian Open Wildcard after being deservedly dropped due to his 2017 behaviour.
Bernard Tomic’s finest hour was Wimbledon where his performance on and off court could not have been more Jerk-like.
Nick Kyrgios has much more talent than his fellow Tennis Jerk, which is why he is so hard to like as he throws away talent with his tantrums, as he is the only one likely to pick up a major out of the young crop of male Australian Tennis players.
Both are nominated therefore for their contribution to our website, rather than any real positive achievement, with a hope for more from the Tennis Jerks in 2018. A mid Australian Open meltdown will do just nicely. For Kyrgios only we suppose, as Tomic won’t even get to the first major of 2018.
If you think the Tennis Jerks should be thanked for the entertainment they have provided in 2017, then stay tuned the voting for 2017 Gurgler Person of the Year. Coming soon. If not, why not vote for them in our 2017 Jerk of the Year poll.
