After all the excitement of missing the midweek League Cup because of the EFL and Foxtel/BeIn Sports ruining our sports viewing, we have saved our energy for our EPL Matchweek 6 Predictions.
It’s a bit of a Meh week really, with nothing much really getting the juices flowing, and no doubt our EPL Matchweek 6 Predictions will reflect the apathy.
Before we get into what we’ve selected, here’s a few of our favourite things.
A FEW OUR OF FAVOURITE THINGS FOR THE EPL MATCHWEEK 6 AHEAD
FTA GAME in AUSTRALIA – WEST HAM v SPURS – coverage on SBS from 9pm – a nice London rivals between two sides who aren’t going particularly well at their respective new home grounds. West Ham manager Bilic is next up for the Sack Race.
A GOAL FOR CRYSTAL PALACE? – Never mind setting a new low for no points after 5 games, Crystal Palace have yet to score a goal. Even with a man like Christian Benteke in their side. What better place to go than Manchester City where they were beaten 5-0 last year and against a side who won 6-0 on the road last weekend. Make that six then?
LEICESTER v LIVERPOOL – Nothing better than a meeting of two sides who have just met midweek in the League Cup. Thankfully neither side took it too seriously and there will probably be about 17 changes for this Sunday’s clash. Should still be entertaining, but if Liverpool can’t start beating sides like Leicester than you can forget them for title. Unless the likely return of Coutinho can make the difference.
BRIGHTON v NEWCASTLE – Not one for the EPL snobs who barely look to the second half of the ladder until March, unless one of the big teams is in it. But it is an interesting clash for a Football League fan, and for one who predicted all three promoted teams to stay up.
GURGLER’S EPL TIPPING COMPETITION
Each week we will put our tips up against an opponent, just like Lawro’s tips on the BBC Football website. But instead of having famous comedian and musicians we’ve never heard of, we put our tips up against a different type of opponent.
We determine tips based on some ridiculous premise or statistic, and we then see if arse truly beat class.
This week’s opponent is a further step on last week’s tipping based on player squad value per player. More on that later, onto our tips first.
OUR EPL MATCHWEEK 6 PREDICTIONS
Onto our selections for the round ahead, with added scores to take on Lawro from the BBC. Our tips were just mediocre last weekend with 5 correct. We didn’t get any correct scores, who cares? On the comeback trail though after improving from 3 to 5.

EPL MATCHWEEK 6 PREDICTIONS – AVERAGE VALUE PER PLAYER PER POINT
Now that the Summer Transfer Window is over, and next year it will close at the beginning of the season in the most common sense decision in any sport this year, it is time to see what the relevant teams have for the season ahead.
We had such success with our EPL MATCHWEEK 6 PREDICTIONS based on the Value of an EPL per player that we used them again this week, but added in another factor of how many points that team has scored thus far to see who has the most value. No point spending if there’s no points.
Some teams have spent many, many millions, but have they spent wisely in terms and is it working so far this season. You will find out soon.
So here are the opponent tips for this week. Average amount spend of the current squad per point is in brackets. The lower the score, the better value of the squad. Unsurprisingly recently promoted sides have the best value squad per points scored. Of all the EPL Top 6 Manchester United have the best squad value per point spent. The worst two are Arsenal and Everton who have a value of 73M and 80M per point so far.
All figures from the tremendous Transfer Markt website.
