EPL Matchday 4 Predictions – Gurgler v Improvement From Matchday 3

The first of a batch of International breaks has interrupted the EPL, and it has given us a chance to regroup and get our EPL Matchday 4 Predictions just right.

Although we’d prefer that instead of the World Cup qualifying taking two years, why not make the whole bloody thing a huge knockout tournament including every team. It’d be great.

Plenty to look forward to this weekend for EPL Matchday 4. Here’s a few of our favourite things.

A FEW OUR OF FAVOURITE THINGS FOR THE ROUND AHEAD

  • FTA GAME in AUSTRALIA – Manchester City v Liverpool. Early game, two great teams, FTA, many boxes ticked.
  • Everton v Spurs – Two sides with spending at either ends of the scale this transfer window, but an intriguing clash awaits.
  • Crystal Palace v West Ham v Newcastle – one more loss could spell the end of at least one of these manager’s stays. The Sack race is always interesting. For the record we say Crystal Palace and Frank de Boer having one of the shortest stays of a permanent EPL manager ever.
  • How many of the new signings will play. Especially Renato Sanches, not just because he is in our EPL Fantasy Team, but it is of great interest to see someone going from Bayern Munich to Swansea City.

Enough rubbish from us, onto our EPL Matchday 4 Predictions.

For those that are bored, we have our Half Assed EPL Season 2017-2018 Preview for anyone who wants a quick rundown of the EPL season ahead according to us.

GURGLER’S EPL TIPPING COMPETITION

Each week we will put our tips up against an opponent, just like Lawro’s tips on the BBC Football website. But instead of having famous comedian and musicians we’ve never heard of, we put our tips up against a different type of opponent.

We determine tips based on some ridiculous premise or statistic, and we then see if arse truly beat class.

This week’s opponents is one of our most popular from last year and features tips based on the Brexit voting. More on that later, onto our tips first.

OUR EPL MATCHDAY 4 PREDICTIONS

Onto our selections for the round ahead, with added scores to take on Lawro from the BBC. Our tips were awful last weekend with just the 3 correct. Surely we can do much better this week, but it does look a tough week to pick.

LIVERPOOL to beat Manchester City (1-0)
SOUTHAMPTON to beat Watford (1-0)
ARSENAL to beat Bournemouth (3-0)
WEST BROM to beat Brighton (1-0)
DRAW – Everton v Spurs (1-1)
CHELSEA to beat Leicester (2-1)
MANCHESTER UNITED to beat Stoke (2-0)
BURNLEY to beat Crystal Palace (2-0)
SWANSEA to beat Newcastle (4-0)
HUDDERSFIELD to beat West Ham (2-1)

EPL MATCHDAY 4 PREDICTIONS – IMPROVEMENT FROM LEAGUE POSITION AFTER 3 GAMES LAST SEASON TO END OF SEASON

With three games gone so far in the 2017-2018 season, there are a few clubs stuck at the bottom of the ladder who are already worried. So are the managers in charge.

But going badly after 3 games is not the end of the world, in fact none of the relegated teams were in the bottom three after three games last season, and none of the bottom four after three games were relegated, funnily enough.

So why not base our tipping opponent’s tips this week on how much a team improved from after three games until the end of the season. The more places gained the better, and gets the tip.

Interestingly, or not, Newcastle gained the most places last season, although their terrible start was in the Championship, and eventually saw them take the second tier title. In pure EPL numbers, Bournemouth were the most improved 19th to 9th.

League position change in Brackets.

LIVERPOOL (-7) to beat Manchester City (+2)
SOUTHAMPTON (-7) to beat Watford (-1)
BOURNEMOUTH (-10) to beat Arsenal (-3)
WEST BROM (0) to beat Brighton (+1)
SPURS (-4) to beat Everton (+3)
CHELSEA (-1) to beat Leicester (+3)
STOKE (-7) to beat Manchester Utd (+3)
CRYSTAL PALACE (-3) to beat Burnley (+3)
NEWCASTLE (-16) to beat SWANSEA (+1)
WEST HAM (-1) to beat Huddersfield (+1)
