2016 Mexican Grand Prix played out early this morning Australian time, and it really did save it’s best for last.
Mercedes won again, and the race was reasonably dull on the whole, but can alive in the last few laps. Completely punishing those who switched off with 10 laps to go.
For those caught out like us and had to wait to watch the recorded version after work, here’s our 2016 Mexican Grand Prix review, and unlike Luca Badoer’s F1 career, it is in point form.
GOOD
LEWIS HAMILTON
Another weekend of dominance, and kudos for him keeping the Championship alive.
THE LAST FEW LAPS
WOW. Didn’t the race finally come alive. The battle between Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel, and the Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo proves you should never tune out of a race. Equally good was the drama of Max getting the arse from the podium room, and Vettel running to the podim to replace him.
NICO ROSBERG
Some liken Rosberg to Prost as Hamilton is compared to Senna. Nico is certainly going the Prost way about the title. Like Prost will be completely underrated even if he wins the Championship.
BASEBALL STADIUM CORNERS
Despite being a terribly Mickey Mouse set of corners, you can’t deny the atmosphere it provides. The fans get a great view for a change. Almost makes up for the fact that the super fast Peralta was cut in half.
BIG LONG START/FINISH STRAIGHT
Love the cars doing over 360km/h at the end of the straight. Hopefully by next year with the car improvements they can break 400.
BAD
NOTHING REALLY
The race was a bit dull overall, but the last few laps made up for it.
UGLY
SEBASTIAN VETTEL ON HIS RADIO
Tell Charlie to F*** Off is radio gold, but he is really starting to lose his cool, but it is great viewing. His demotion from third wouldn’t have helped his mood after the race. The tantrums are getting bigger and better. Ugly but gold.
SAUBER
Starting to get tight for Sauber. Just two races left to score a point, or enough to overtake Manor for 10th. Hard to think they were the works BMW team at one stage.
