Two Melbourne-based friends are using a double birthday celebration to call a truce on their ‘code wars’.
Cameron, originally from Sydney and a devoted Sydney Roosters fan, moved to Melbourne for work, where he struck a friendship with Aaron, who’s a passionate Richmond fan.
While Cameron and Aaron have similar tastes in many things (movies, music, books, video games, and TV shows), the one thing they argue about is football.
“It’s like a lame ’90s sitcom. Az calls The Greatest Game of All ‘Rugby’, where I call his sport ‘Aerial Ping Pong’. We’re always arguing over which footy code is better,” said Cameron.
But – as luck would have it – the new friends both have birthdays in late August, which gave them an idea.
“Why not use our birthday presents to break the code wars?” said Aaron. “I’ve bought Cam and I tickets to Melbourne vs Collingwood at the ‘G [Friday August 23], and Cam is buying us tickets to Storm vs Dolphins game at AAMI Park [Saturday August 24]. We’ll enjoy each other’s games and then spend the rest of the weekend discussing them. Over plenty of beers of course.”
“I’ve been to a couple of Swans games back home, but Az has never been to a Storm game, so he’s going to get an education,” said Cameron.
