The NRL has announced their 2024 Grand Final entertainment: New Girl actor and She & Him vocalist Zooey Deschanel.
“When I heard that other code was going to get Katy Perry, I knew we needed to act quickly,” said NRL CEO Andrew Abdo. “So, I asked the social media team to find someone who looked similar to Perry, and that’s how we got Zooey. Luckily, she can also sing, so we’ve done pretty well. Not even Buzz can spin a negative story out of this.”
While Deschanel is jokingly called Perry’s lookalike, even she was surprised by the appointment.
“I don’t know what the NRL is. I was told it was some rugby game? But they said I’ll be singing infront of 80,000 fans down under, so that’ll be fun,” said Deschanel. “I might do a few covers, a couple of She & Him songs, see where the mood takes me.”
