A Brisbane family are planning a superhero-themed Easter weekend.
Not interested in braving holiday traffic and packed out caravan parks, the Taylors (husband Mark, wife Sarah, and kids Peter and Zooey) decided to celebrate Easter at home with a superhero movie marathon.
There’s four of us, so we’ve picked out three superhero movies each, which is 12 all up,” said Mark. “They can be any superhero movie: Marvel, DC, something independent, even parody movies count.”
The family has spent the weekend meticulously planning the viewing schedule.
“We start with one movie Thursday night, as everyone will be tired from work and school. Then four movies each on Friday and Saturday: two in the afternoon and two at night. Sunday we finish off with one afternoon movie and two more night movies,” said Zooey. “While you don’t have to watch every movie, you have to watch at least one movie a day.”
The movie order will be at random, with each family members taking turns picking a movie each morning from a bowl. The order of the movies will be decided by another random draw.
Zooey got the idea while at work.
“We still have Foxtel in the lunch room, and they were advertising an Easter marathon of some old sitcom. I thought that might be a fun thing for us to do.”
But the biggest part of the weekend is on Easter Monday.
“We’re going to have a big superhero-themed party on Monday afternoon. We were going to do it Saturday night, but it’s easier for families to make it in the afternoon,” said Zooey. “Everyone’s getting dressed up and all the movies will be played at random as background noise.”
“It’s going to be a fun weekend and the kids are looking forward to it,” said Mark. “I’m going to have to miss a few footy games, but Zo said I can still watch the Broncos game on Good Friday night and I watch the other games on highlights.”
