A struggling local actor has found work in mobile game advertising.
Peter was a regular in Aussie dramas and soap operas, but work dried up during the pandemic.
“I ended up working in this call centre. The job sucks, but I used it to hone my acting skills so I could be ‘excited’ to sell whatever garbage we were pushing.”
Though Peter’s finally found acting work again.
“You know those ads for the shitty match 3 mobile games where ‘real’ people play it? That’s me,” said Peter.
“I got the job through a friend of a friend and it’s pretty sweet. I use some prop smart phone – which isn’t even turned on – and pretend to be excited/frustrated/sad, depending on the ad. Sometimes I do have to do silly dances if I ‘win’. I’m glad I don’t have to actually play the game, because they’re boring as hell!”
While Peter still works at the call centre, he’s hoping to get out of there soon.
“The mobile ad work is helping to rebuild my network. I’ve auditioned for a small role in a Stan crime drama, so that looks promising. I don’t want to be one of those poor bastards who’s stuck in the call centre cycle and can’t go anywhere else.”
