Welcome to our Fantasy Premier League 2023-24 FPL GW3 Captain Preview + Stats Summary for another week of exciting fantasy football.
It’s still early days in Fantasy Premier League right now, and some managers with loads of Brighton players are sitting pretty, others with Man Utd players are considering their options, and some are hoping it’s Chelsea to the rescue. Before any of that and more happens, our preview tries to serve up as much helpful information as possible. Not as good as #FPLCommunity, but an alternative.
Every game week we take a truckload of stats and compile them into our Captain’s table – our unique way of telling you who should wear your FPL team’s armband. In addition to that is keeping an eye on bonus points, general stats, and trends on the where, when, and how the best Premier League players do their thing for FPL.
2023-24 FPL GW3 Captain Preview – Captain’s Table
Here are this week’s FPL Captain Picks results. A full explanation and full list of the stats and calculations are provided at the end.
Note: No Haaland stats v Sheffield Utd so 2023-24 stats are used.
FPL GW3 Captain Preview Thoughts
Read on for a quick summary of who we suggest to be considered for FPL captain this week. All in the theme of the Hello, Goodbye Beatles song.
HELLO – Erling Haaland
It may have been a quieter week than expected for Erling Haaland but that’s surely a blip for the Man City striker. Sheffield United are good opposition to play as looking back at last season promoted sides won just five of the 36 games played against big six clubs. Man City continued that trend in GW with a win over last year’s Championship winners – Burnley and two goals for Haaland ibn GW1. Haaland scored six and provided one assist in six games v promoted clubs last season and has two goals already this season.
The only doubt is having s many other options. As our Captain’s Table shows this week.
CALL ME MAYBE – Bukayo Saka or Man Utd players even Solly March.
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka leads the second rung of captain choices, and why not, as he leads the FPL stats for Touches in the Final Third, and in the top band for Chances, Shots and Touches in the Penalty Box. And Arsenal’s record against Fulham is outstanding. They are yet to lose to Fulham at home in 31 matches (W25 D6). The Gunners won 3-0 and 2-1 last season. The game is at home which helps. His record at home last season of 10 goals and 7 assists is far better than his 4 goals and 4 assists away.
Man Utd may have been a little underwhelming this season but their stats are right up there, and they are playing Nottingham Forest at home, the team who had the worst away record last season. Bruno Fernandes is right up there for chances created and key passes in this season’s stats below. And second for Expected Goal Involvement. So maybe this is the week for the reality to catch up to the expected. Marcus Rashford is down in tenth for shots and that’s his best stat so far, so it’s a maybe not. Man Utd beat the Nottingham Forest by 13-2 in their last five home games for Man Utd.
Solly March is continuing his rich form from last season, by topping a lot of stats for this season too, including our Captains Table. And Brighton did beat West Ham in both fixtures last season by a combined 6-0.
GOODBYE – Mo Salah
We love Mo Salah, but can he be trusted? Newcastle kept Man City reasonably quiet last weekend, and are Liverpool any better? Probably not. The missed penalty is a worry too.

Can’t keep up with the Man City manager and who to take? Here is a collection of stats that may help which player you’ll be disappointed by.
Of course the stats show Phil Foden is in fine form, which will continue until enough FPL managers have been sucked in, and the Pep unleashes the roulette again.
