Welcome to our Fantasy Premier League 2023-24 FPL GW2 Captain Preview + Stats Preview for another week of exciting fantasy football.
It’s early days in Fantasy Premier League right now, and some managers are sitting pretty, others are ripping up their pre season plans, some are already cursing Pep, and some are looking for the exit. Before that happens, our preview tries to serve up as much helpful information as possible. Not as good as #FPLCommunity, but an alternative.
Every game week we take a truckload of stats and compile them into our Captain’s table – our unique way of telling you who should wear your FPL team’s armband. In addition to that is keeping an eye on bonus points, general stats, and trends on the where, when, and how the best Premier League players do their thing for FPL.
2023-24 FPL GW2 Captain Preview – Captain’s Table
Here are this week’s FPL Captain Picks results. A full explanation and full list of the stats and calculations are provided at the end.
FPL GW2 Captain Preview Thoughts
Read on for a quick summary of who we suggest to be considered for FPL catpain this week. All in the theme of the Hello, Goodbye Beatles song.
HELLO – Erling Haaland
Meet the new season, same as the old season. Erling Haaland picks up where he left off in 2022-23 with two goals to start the season. And some were worried about second season syndrome or a quiet pre season.
Picking Haaland as captain is easy, so we’re hardly ground breakers here, and our Captain’s Table score of 90.7 is nearing that 100 perfection score. So choose anyone else at your own peril.
But, of all the teams from GW1 that impressed, Man City’s opponent for this GW – Newcastle – were one. And Newcastle were third best for points per game last season v top six teams (at time of match not end of season). So maybe it is not that simple.
But it probably will be, he has a goal and an assist in two games v Newcastle. Plus Man City have won eight straight league games at home to Newcastle by the combined score of 30-3.
CALL ME MAYBE – Bukayo Saka or Mo Salah
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka finishes up second on our Captain’s Table for this weekend, and he also hit the ground running last weekend. On paper the fixture looks OK for Arsenal, and their record at Crystal Palace is OK, but a quirk in that form is that Arsenal have lost their last two games on a Monday at Crystal Palace by 3-0 (2022 / 2017).
Mo Salah and Liverpool looked OK against Chelsea, a game they were always destined to draw and continue that run of stalemates. But this weekend sees Liverpool return home and face Bournemouth. A team they beat 9-0 last season. And a team who Mo Salah has scored eight goals in eight games against. So he could be genuine alternative captain if FPL managers out there think the Man City-Newcastle game will be less one sided than history suggests.
GOODBYE
Man Utd and Spurs players
More just a wait and see rather than a hard no. And while a lot of FPL managers will have Man Utd players in their team, very few won’t have one or more of the players mentioned above.
