What an incredible first week of NRL action it was. Star performances, hard working players giving it their all, field goals a-plenty and a sensational start to the Dolphins NRL life. We try and make the stats do the talking, and separate the Wheat/Chaff to present the NRL Round 1 Team of the Week explain.
We have taken some of the key stats and assign various scoring methods, all in the good intention of making the various types of stats even out across the position, and a true team of the week unveiled.

So we’ve used the stats for each position and picked the best starting 13 players from the most recent round, the stats and points assigned are explained at the end.
On top of the best starting 13, we include the best four interchange players of the week. Seeing who has provided maximum impact from the bench. Plus new for 2023 is the top four players that didn’t feature in our Team of the Week that demanded selection. It can’t always be stats and stuff.
Quite a number of Dolphins in the Players of the Week, and quite rightly, they were awesome against the Roosters. The Team of the Week for Round 1 features five players from losing sides in Round 1 – J’Maine Hopgood was one of the highest scorers in Supercoach for the weekend despite being on the losing side.
New for 2023 is adding some players where the stats might not say that they were top, but their on field contributions were so big to ignore. Like Lachlan Ilias who has torpedoed second season syndrome with a magical Saturday night against the Sharks. Same with Felise Kaufusi, who provided the big moment for the Dolphins in their win over the Roosters and won the first ever Beetson medal.
