So two of the three gamedays are done for the 2022 World Cup group stage, and there’s still so much more to decide. Before we move onto the critical final games of the Group Stage, why not have a quick look back to see which teams are hot on the field, and which teams are not with our World Cup Team Rankings.
We have captured many data fields as we could find easily and for free, and assigned weightings in relation to their importance, then measured then against the best results to come up with a rating out of 100% relative to the best side at the moment. The details of inclusions is at the end if you so wish.
Which team is number one? Keep reading for that, and a whole bunch of potentially useful stats as the big games of the 2022 World Cup lie ahead.
World Cup Team Rankings
Here are our team ranking for all 32 teams, as a relative % to the best team in the World Cup so far which is France.
World Cup Team Stats So Far
Here are the choicest cut of stats from the first two gamedays of the 2022 World Cup so far.
Plus we throw in a few points of interest along the way.
SHOTS
- Costa Rica are the most efficient team for Shots on Target turning into goals. 100% with their only shot on target scoring against Japan.\
- North American sides have the worst Shots on Target to overall shots taken.
- Canada are fourth for shots, but have been eliminated from the knockout stage after two games
PASSES / TOUCHES
- Can anyone believe that Spain top the team for number of touches? Just a lazy 300 and more higher than the next best.
- Soain’s 1210 Touches in the first game v Costa Rica is still more than nine teams in total for both days.
- A lack of key passes doesn’t necessarily translate to losses.
- Uruguay and Tunisia both have 18 Key Passes and no goals so far.
BAD BOYS
So who are the bad boys at the World Cup in Qatar. Well, apart from anyone wearing anything rainbow, pitch invaders, Budweiser, coloured armbands, and anyone remotely anti-Qatar or FIFA.
Here are the stats of fouls and other bad boys categories.
- If you think the big teams are favoured when it comes to fouls, you;d be right. One of our visuals below shows the difference in fouls conceded to fouls won. And most of the favourites are up the top and in the positive. Ironically, the team whose fans pick up rubbish at the end of games are the most dirty. Or maybe the fans know that in advance and try and align the karma.
- Japan top the foul count and gave away 22 alone in their second match v Cost Rica. The two best performances for fewest fouls both belong to France. (4/5)
- Argentina lead the offside, not helped by the first match where they were offside 10 times and cost them the match v Saudi Arabia.
