Group G Brazil v Switzerland Match Preview
Why should you care?
Because it is Brazil. Sure we said that before Brazil’s first game, but the rule still applies. Brazil plays, we watch and listen.
Their win v Serbia took a long time coming, but once it did they were pretty clinical. And impressive. Maybe not the headline score of Spain or England, but they did avoid the headline from the other end of the pool like Argentina and Germany. France didn’t really blow anyone away on their march to the World Cup last start.
Switzerland may not be a side to stir quite the same passion as Brazil, but they will be a difficult enough opponent for Brazil. And they are ranked six olaces higher than Serbia.
Who should you care about?
Well first of all, the person to watch is Neymar. Not necessarily on the pitch but if he can make it onto the pitch after appearing to hurt his ankle in Brazil’s win over Serbia.
Other than that, it’s a buffet of attacking players to watch from Brazil. Maybe it will be another wonder goal from Richarlison. Or Vinícius Júnior attacking down the sides. Or perhaps if Neymar is out we can see more of Gabriel Jesus.
We liked Xherdan Shaqiri for Switzerland before game one, and like him before game two as well. Granit Xhaka was good v Serbia, and will need to be good v Brazil to help keep Switzerland as the next most likely to go through to the knockout stage.

Is there a barely interesting fact?
This is the third World Cup in a row where Brazil and Switzerland have met in the group stages. Both of those games in 2014 and 2018 were 1-1 draws.
In every year that Brazil have won the World Cup, they have won their first group stage game. And on four of those five occasions the team they beat wore a red kit. Serbia wore red in their first game v Brazil.
