Welcome to our Fantasy Premier League FPL GW7 Captain Preview + Stats Preview for another week of exciting fantasy football. Perhaps we will last longer as FPL managers than a Chelsea manager.
Every Gameweek we take a truckload of stats and compile them into our Captain’s table and then have a score out of 100 who we think should be captain.
Along with the Captain’s Table is a load of key stats for general FPL knowledge, some opinion and a bold predictions or two. Something for everyone.
FPL GW7 Captain Preview – Captain’s Table
Here are this week’s FPL Captain Picks results. A full explanation and full list of the stats and calculations are provided at the end.
Stats are based up to the previous GW except for scoring records v opposition. Where there is no opposition history we have all time Premier League season’s stats (in yellow text).
FPL Captain Preview GW7 Thoughts
HELLO – Erling Haaland or Ivan Toney
So Erling Haaland is obvious, those who haven’t taken the Man City striker have been well and truly punished in recent weeks, but better late than never eh? He tops our Captain’s Table with a score close to a perfect 100. Just a lazy ten goals in six games, and just one game without a goal, although that saw an assist.
Big question is the fixture. Spurs is Man City’s biggest game of the Premier League season so far. One could argue Sevilla away in the Champions League is a big fixture, and he grabbed two goals in that. Or looking at his record in the Bundesliga against the biggest team Bayern Munich – his record of five goals and an assist in six games proves his consistency. If you’re looking for a long bow, Haaland’s only scoreless game came at home this season, but you’d have to overlook the two hat tricks in the other games.
Ivan Toney punished those who dropped him from the FPL side for someone with bigger potential last weekend, with a hat trick v Leeds. Talking of hat tricks, he did manage one in last season’s Premier League campaign against Norwich, and a good sign for those who have Toney in their side, he followed that hat trick up last season with a double in the very next game. Toney was light on shots but big on Chances Created earlier in the season, so if he has turned on the shot radar, then another big haul of points could be coming.
CALL ME MAYBE
Marcus Rashford or Gabriel Jesus or Aleksandr Mitrovic
Marcus Rashford has somehow become an FPL point scoring machine, and Man Utd are winning because of it. At a cost of 6.5 many FPL players including us are looking to get among the value. While Rashford hasn’t been prolific against Crystal Palace in the past, his side have. Crystal Palace’s last win at home over Man Utd was before the Premier League started in 1991. 15 games unbeaten with 11 wins and four draws. Man Utd average 1.7 goals away to Crystal Palace at that time.
Gabriel Jesus may not have scored last week against Man Utd, but he did create six chances and had a lot of touches – Jesus currently has 50 more touches than next best fwd Joelinton. Big thing for Jesus fans, and who isn’t, is that he is at home and against Everton. Jesus’ stats strongly favour his home form. He has 15 shots at home this v 5 shots away, and had 30 more Penalty Box touches at home. And Arsenal face Everton who have conceded the second most amount of shots of all EPL teams this season.
Aleksandar Mitrović is in almost as good form as he was when scoring a million goals in the Championship last season, with no signs of it stopping. Do you get on the train now? No player has had more shots this year. But the big worry is the fixture – Chelsea. Previous to this weekend Mitrovic hasn’t scored a goal in five meetings. Of course he and his team are going much better than expected, Mitrovic bossed Liverpool for large parts if we’re honest, and Chelsea could be a rabble after they had their manager sacked. Still, at that price….
GOODBYE
Liverpool players
If FPL managers are discussing whether or not to keep Liverpool players at all, it’s hard to argue for them to be captain. The fixture of Wolves at home does have advantages – Liverpool have won six straight v Wolves. Wolves have only scored one goal in that six game run. Liverpool have scored 11. Wolves have also scored just five goals in 16 Premier League games v Liverpool. But after a 0-0 draw with Everton, and a Champions League spanking from Napoli, you’re taking on faith.
