Worried about the (Redcliffe) Dolphins’ slow signing run, NRL boss Andrew Abdo is ready to pull off a shock team switch.
Desperate for an immediately successful fourth Queensland team, Abdo will relocate the Melbourne Storm to Redcliffe (Greater Brisbane Storm) and shift the Dolphins to Melbourne (Melbourne Dolphins).
”It’s simple economics: the Storm are already good and have so much support in Queensland that they’re basically the fourth Queensland side anyway. As for the Dolphins, we know that 95% of Victorians don’t give a toss about ‘the Rugby’, so it doesn’t matter if the Dolphins take a few years to be decent,” said Abdo.
Queenslanders were excited by the Storm’s move, with GBS to be based in Redcliffe while playing big games at Lang Park. Channel Nein staff were also elated, with the scheduling team already penning in the first GBS v Broncos Lang Park derby for the opening Friday night in 2023.
But the one Storm fan Wooden Spooners reporters found in Melbourne is quite upset.
“Rugby is f***** stupid anyway! I only started following the Storm because my beloved Melbourne Demons were garbage, but I lost interest in the Storm when the mighty Dees got good again last year. The Storm didn’t even make the grand final. Useless! I’ve already sold my Storm polo and jersey on Facebook Marketplace. Got $200 for both of them,” said the anonymous fan.
