A popular Sydney Drive Time radio show has officially broken a world record, entering its sixth consecutive hour on the same banal talkback topic.
Fanging Home with Davo and K-Wrist started a callback chat called ‘Pineapple on Pizza: Yay or Nay?’ on their Thursday afternoon show. To the surprise of everyone, the topic was still going as midnight approached, with the phones lighting up.
“I got the idea from some silly Facebook poll and decided to give it a whirl, ’cause nothing is off limits on the coveted drive time slot,” said host Dave ‘Davo’ Davidson, a former rugby league player for the Sydney Roosters reserve grade team before finding a plus radio job with his blokey but approachable radio patter. “It’s ridiculous how passionate non-famous people get about pizza: a few of the idiots even cried. Can you believe it?”
“Normally we just go from 5 to 8pm, but the phones were so hot that our producer Macca decided to keep going. Davo I and were happy to continue so we got the sweet overtime cash!” added co-host Kirsten ‘K-Wrist’ Warren, a former reality show contestant on Big Brother, The Bachelorette, and Married at First Sight. “I know a thing or two about jumping on a trend, so I knew this idea was gold as soon as Davo mentioned it in our production meeting this morning.”
The ‘Drive Time’ production team are currently hard at work finding another talking point about pizza toppings.
“Onions could be an interesting one,” said the show’s producer Michael ‘Macca’ MacKenzie, who isn’t famous but is still a really good producer.
