An emerging Sydney comedian has become an accidental TikTok sensation.
While visiting extended family over Christmas, Peter (a hard-working stand up comedian and full-time data entry worker) became frustrated with the inane – but popular – TikTok videos his nieces and nephews were watching.
“I bust my ass on the stand up circuit every weekend, work on my set every night, and some d***head on TikTok gets a million followers by posting stupid videos of what they had for breakfast. Some of them just laugh like hyenas for a few minutes and get all the attention. It pisses me off!”
So Peter decided to do something about it.
Pulling out an old analogue clock from his parents’ attic, Peter posted the literal ‘tick tock’ of the clock three times a day.

“It’s a tick tock of a clock on TikTok. It’s so beautifully meta and insanely stupid! Though I had to add a caption of what the time was because Millennials or Gen Whatever-the-Hell-They-Are can’t read proper clocks anymore. It’s all spoon-fed to them on their bloody phones, just like TikTok.”
While intended as throwaway pisstake, Peter was shocked when the videos grew in popularity.
“Some people said in the comments that the tick tock noise was calming and helped them go to sleep. Seriously? I had that clock in my bedroom growing up and it drove me nuts!”
In another crazy twist, Peter has been approached by streaming platform Stan to create a documentary about the old clock.
“They want to call it ‘The Clock That Took Over TikTok’, which is f****** stupid, but whatever, I’ve already started writing the script. Maybe they’ll let me do a stand up special afterwards.”
