FPL | Fantasy Premier League FPL Captain Picks GW12 + Stats Preview

Welcome to our Fantasy Premier League FPL Captain Picks GW12 Come for the Fantasy Premier Captain picks, stay for a plethora of FPL stats.

Every gameweek we take a truckload of stats and compile them into our Captain’s table and then have a score out of 100 who we think should be captain.

This week the decision continues to be easy, with Mo Salah continuing to do his thing. But is there someone else with a new manager putting their hand up? Or a team with a very winnable game? Or will Pep ruin whatever alternative strategy you had and bench your player.

Along with the Captain’s Table is a load of key stats for general FPL knowledge, like who is taking the most shots, chances created, FPL Bonus Points, our own Game Difficulty rating and more.

All of those stats await, but first help yourself to a seat at the Fantasy Premier League FPL Captain Picks GW12 Captain’s Table.

FPL Captain Picks GW12 Captain’s Table

Here are the FPL Captain Picks GW12 results. A full explanation and full list of the stats and calculations are provided at the end.

We show only the top ten, the entire data is determined by our selection of the top potential captain choices.

Stats are based up to the previous GW except for scoring records v opposition. Where there is no opposition history we have taken this season’s stats.

FPL Captain Picks GW12 Analysis

Mo Salah, Mo Points. The equation has become that simple sadly. If you don’t have him and he goes well, you’re in for a bad week a lot of the time. But he’s not invincible, and neither are his team after their lost at West Ham before the International break. But against Arsenal at home, there’s plenty of stats on their side for wins and goals. Liverpool are on a nine game unbeaten run at home to Arsenal. The Gunners last won at Anfield back in 2012. Liverpool have scored 33 goals in those nine games. And taking a stroll through our stats below, Mo Salah is just too hard to ignore for Captain.

So maybe we use the rest of the captain analysis for who to have as Vice Captain. Or one for the rule breakers and individuals going for broke.

Man Utd look an interesting prospect this weekend for FPL. Their record is so good against Watford, and Watford’s poor against big clubs this season. Like – Man Utd are 2/2 v London clubs this season. Or Watford are currently 0/3 for matches v big six this season. Their goal tally is also 0 for 7 against. Watford have won just one of the 21 clashes between these sides on a Saturday. In 1982 in the FA Cup.

Bruno Fernandes zooms up to second of our FPL Captain choices, and this is mainly his tremendous record v Watford in his only start. Two assists and one goal give him a big boost up the table despite hot and cold form. Much like his team. What has been lost in the Ole and Ronaldo circus is that Bruno’s stats are still good. He tops Chances Created and is third for Big Chances created. He tops most of the Key Passes stats below, and is in the top five for touches combined in the box and six yard box. And top ten for shots.

Also in the top ten for shots is Cristiano Ronaldo. With a similar advantage of his team’s record v Watford this weekend. And he is Ronaldo. Buthe has been a little quiet in recent weeks v Liverpool and Man City, but who from Man Utd wasn’t. But his touches v Man City was half of the season average, and he has mustered just one shot (albeit on target) in each of the last two games. But still, it’s Ronaldo v Watford.

After scoring a million goals for England against San Marino during the international break, Harry Kane may be on some people’s shopping list for this GW or beyond. He doesn’t feature in our top ten captains picks yet, but is surely going to turn a corner. His team mate Son is more popular and the better choice right now. He is our fifth choice for captain and has a great scoring record against this weekend’s opponent – Leeds. Two goals and one assist in two games is good going. Harry Kane’s record is a more modest two goals from four games. But Son isn’t in the top 20 for total shots in the last 5 GW, so you are taking him on faith of having a new manager, And a good one at that.

Man City have lots of options as ever. Phil Foden is the most popular at the moment, and he has shown he can live up to the hype. And maybe Pep will play him a lot more regularly. However with an international break just gone, and Champions League around the corner. He is currently fourth for touches in the penalty box per 90 minutes, but he has a lot of Man City tea mates for company. One is Riyad Mahrez who tops the touches in the box per 90. Mahrez actually also is ahead of Mo Salah for Shots per 90 minutes. There’s also the most expensive forgotten man of FPL ever in Jack Grealish who is around the top of a few stats too. The big issue, as ever, is whether Pep will play them or not.

Mason Mount is third and Chelsea’s only representative in our top ten. He may be still riding high on his big haul v Norwich. Chelsea play Leicester which could go either way. A hold if you have him, but probably looking elsewhere if you don’t.

Before we go, may we mention Connor Gallagher. Look no further than our Ten O’ The Best stats below. The Crystal Palace midfielder is fourth on that list and firing in general. Top ten for chances created past five GW, and Palace have a easy-ish run of games.

FPL Captain Picks GW12 – Other Stats

2021-22 SEASON STATS SO FAR

Before one ventures into the new gameweek, how about a review of who is doing the best at the moment across a wide range of key stats.

We’ve hand picked the best of them from this season so far and last weekend’s action.

To get the best from the below visuals, click on them to zoom in.

FPL 21-22 – CHANCES CREATED

  • Bruno Fernandes territory here, but that hasn’t stopped his ownership plummeting (see the visual below the Chances). He still tops the last 5 GW for chances.
  • One left field choice is a favourite of ours as an Eibar follower. Marc Cucurella is equal fourth for chances created in the last 5 GW, and it well worth a thought for a cheap-ish defender. He’s as good as KDB in numbers for the last 5 GW.
  • Liverpool create the most chances but Chelsea are better at converting them.
  • It’s all Liverpool at the top for big chances with Mo and TAA on top.
  • Youri Tielemans has some good stats, but is sadly a 50% of playing this weekend.

FPL 21-22 – TOUCHES

It should be no surprise that Man City dominate the Touches stats. If only they had a proper full time striker.

Mo Salah is third best for touches in the Penalty Area per 90 minutes and best for overall total.

The Final Third touches total is a who’s who of best FPL performers this season, so a good stat to follow.

FPL 21-22 – SHOTS

We’ve revamped our Shots stats for this week. With shots per 90 minutes added, and shots from the last 5 GW to provide extra context.

Two young players in Foden and this season’s surprise Smith-Rowe are up the top for shot on target %.

West Ham’s Jared Bowen in on a few team’s radar, and he is climbing up the shots rankings too. Making an irresistible combination with Antonio and Benrahma. Imagine if they had Jesse Lingard. They’d be a top four side. Oh, wait a minute.

We’re very keen on cheaper options like Trossard and Gallagher, and they feature in the top shot makers. Trossard is sixth overall, and both he and Galagher are in the top ten for shots in the last 5 GW.

The final visual is to track the top ten shooters for each GW.

FPL STATS IN DEPTH – MO SALAH

Every week we will bring you a little more depth to a certain player or team.

Who better to start with than Mo Salah.

Owned by well over half of the FPL players and in sparkling form, it could be his best season ever.

So we have broken down the shots, touches and chances by GW and via opposition type for your statistical pleasure.

And this week we provide the same for three other premium selections, all with their problems of FPL point scoring this season. One premium, two cheap-ish one that must be considered.

CAPTAIN’S TABLE DATA EXPLAINED

If you’re after an explanation on the Captain’s Table data help yourself to the below.

Goals and Assists v Opposition are compiled and compared to the best return per game for each player against this week’s opposition. The top return is awarded 20 points and points are reduced on a sliding scale from there. For players who haven’t played against this week’s opposition we have used goals + assists per game from this season. They are coloured in gold text.

Form taken straight from the Official FPL website. The top return is awarded 30 points and points are reduced on a sliding scale from there.

FPL points per Minute  is a measurement taking the overall FPL points scored by the minutes on the field. This is so injured players or mid season signings are disadvantaged. The top return is awarded 20 points and points are reduced on a sliding scale from there.

Key Stats per Game is our own in house combination of key FPL stats for each players, which is then compared to the top results and goes down on a sliding scale. The fields include Goals per Game, Shots per Game Assists per Game, Key Passesper Game, Shots On Target per Game, and Chances per Game. Top Player get a maximum of 10 points and awarded on a sliding scale from there.

Bonus Points we tally up the Bonus Points throughout the 2021-22 season. Top Player get a maximum of 10 points and awarded on a sliding scale from there.

Match Rater – in addition to our Captain’s Table we have also devised our own Premier League Fixture Difficulty which we have included for a max 10 points. Because we think that game itself should be rated as well.

Multiplier – we have taken each player’s record against big six clubs and Home/Away goalscoring trends and applied a multiplier based on positive or negative trend.

Total all the scores are combined for an overall total. Maximum is 100.
