Another Premier League season is almost here, and with Fantasy Premier League already open for the season FPL players are looking at some value selections for their team, so we take a look at the Promoted Team FPL Player Stats.
This means we’re looking at the stats from the Championship’s three promoted sides from last season, and will have enough graphs and analysis to tell you which ones to consider.
For most Promoted Team FPL Player Stats. we have included a 2020-21 visual from the Premier League’s best, so the stats can be side by side to the stars.
There’s a handful of players who look like must haves, and a few to take a chance on. And we even compare the entire teams. Also note this is for players from the three promoted Championship teams. Players who move to these teams are not included. Although Billy Gilmour looks a good move at Norwich.
Anyways, onto our Promoted Team FPL Player Stats.

SUMMARY
The following piece will have a lot of stats, so we’d thought we should start off with a summary.
There are two must haves for FPL in our opinion. First is Ivan Toney. The Brentford striker scored 31 goals and also provided 10 assists. Ollie Watkins is a good comparison for Toney and the now Aston Villa striker scored 25 goals in his Championship season with Brentford before moving to Aston Villa. At a cost of 6.5 it’s a no-brainer. Even with the expected drop in output moving up a grade. Although Ivan Toney has a level of confidence that won’t affect him to much.
The other is Emiliano Buendía. His stats are outstanding from last season, and a move to Aston Villa (whose recruiting is looking very interesting even before they get some Grealish funds) means he is more likely to continue that form with no disrespect to Norwich. Cost of 6.5 is high end, similar to West Brom’s Pereira last season. Those who hung onto him were rewarded later in the season. Buendia’s stats coming into this season make him a better prospect and he’s in a better team than last season’s West Brom.
Some may say that selecting Buendia may depends on Jack Grealish leaving, which looks likely, but if he doesn’t Aston Villa will have some fire power with Grealish patrolling the left and Buendia the right. As is their more preferred positions. Aston Villa look like real improvers this season, and if they can jag Smith-Rowe somehow from Arsenal as they wish, Villa could be the big surprise packets. But back to the promoted sides now….
Ismaïla Sarr will be popular and his stats are still good, but it depends if one is looking for more than one budget midfielder.
Another Watford player we are taking next season is Joao Pedro. While his stats aren’t chart topping, he’s a great budget choice and has loads of potential. At 5.5 he could be a good cheapie and Watford have a reasonable run early.
Sergio Canos from Brentford looks another good cheap Brentford option, for those who want value alongside premium.
Outside of specific players, you could look to at least on of either Watford or Brentford in defence. Refer to our clean sheets segment but both teams finished off the season well in terms of goals conceded. If you’re picking a Watford defender Francisco Sierralta looks the pick.
SHOTS
Teemu Pukki tops the shots per game with a figure that matches Bruno Fernandes in the Premier League last season and tops the shots on target too. Pukki managed 26 goals last season in the Championship which was three fewer than his previous Championship season with Norwich in 18/19.
Livewire player Ivan Toney is second best for shots on target and shots which puts him ahead of a number of EPL stats from last year. He outscored Pukki by five goals though and was third for assists.
For once Buendia doesn’t top a stats graph, but he is third still for shots. And around Bamford and Mane for shots per game.
The next four players in the shots per game are all worth FPL consideration – Sarr, Canos, Cantwell, Joao Pedro.
SHOTS ON TARGET
No surprise that Pukki and Toney lead the Shots on Target by a decent margin and their strike rate per game is up there with the Premier League’s best last season. Albeit against Championship opposition. Buendia is top three in yet another stat and another potentially popular FPL cheapie Sarr completes the top four but he outside the Premier League top ten strike rate.
SHOT QUALITY
Good old Troy Deeney is up the top of the Shots on Target accuracy, but he missed a lot of games. Andre Gray ended up with the best % for Shots on Target, but he may be leaving for Championship club Middlesbrough.
Three good value hopes are next up and all three likely to feature in our side in the first few weeks of FPL.
Toney’s goal conversion is better than 50% and throw in his Shots on Target accuracy is third best, and is a must include.
KEY PASSES
Two Norwich players miles ahead of the rest here with Buendia no surprise given his stellar season. He is well ahead of KDB EPL Best of Key Passes per game. Defender Xavi Quintilla from Norwich also over 3 per game and twice as many crosses than any other here, but he was a loan signing from La Liga and looks to be staying in Spain next season.
The rest of the Championship top key pass performers are all outside the top Premier League key pass performers from last season. Mbuemo and Cantwell are not bad options here from the midfield, but those stats aren’t impressive to take up one of the key midfield positions for FPL.
ASSISTS
Mbuemo was part of the BMW of Brentford’s 19/20 season which looked odds on for promotion. It did eventually but just took an extra season. – where the B and W have done very well in the Premier League last season. Mbuemo is even with striker Ivan Toney for assists. We think fourth placed Sergi Canos is the player to watch.
Buendia tops the assist table though, with his 16 assists better than none other than Harry Kane’s 14 in the Premier League last year.
Mathias Jensen looks like value at just 4.5M if you want a stocking filler and someone offering lots of crosses and some corner work.
WHO SCORED RATINGS
Who Scored is one of the most trustworthy football websites, and their Ratings are a great alternative measure for the Championship players.
DISCIPLINE
Buendia has topped many stats here and so he tops one more as the bad guy of the Championship trio for Red Cards. Something to consider anyway.
CLEAN SHEETS
A clean sheet every second game for Watford who got away with a lot of 1-0 wins. Tending to be at home.
They tightened up their defence in the second half of the season with 13 of their last 23 games being clean sheets. Watford only conceded 13 goals in total in the second half of the season (23 games).
Norwich had 11 clean sheets in the second half of the season, but conceded eight in five once promotion was sealed.
Worth noting that Norwich conceded 57 goals last time they were promoted from the Championship and this time it was 21 fewer goals. So more Premier League ready this time? Or just more boring?
Brentford were the best defensive team of this trio late in the season with six clean sheets in their last eight games and conceded just two goals.
So these teams look reasonably stable at the back for promoted sides. So look to include at least two in your FPL to balance out a couple of the more expensive players.
TEAMS – GOALS SCORED / CONCEDED
As above these teams all look OK in defence, all three conceding at less than a goal per game.
Only Manchester City and Chelsea managed that in the Premier League last season. Of course these teams will be sorted out in the Premier League but Watford’s 0.65 goals conceded per game is still impressive. And as above Norwich have improved from Championship promotion to Championship promotion by 21 goals.
Brentford lead the way for goals scored for the trio on the back of Ivan Toney’s stellar season. One impressive stat of their season is their goals per game against the top six sides. Well ahead of the other teams which shows they might be more likely to cause Premier League defences trouble.
Watford’s goals scored are all about home, something to note if taking their attackers or midfielders for the upcoming FPL side. Perhaps Watford players could be benched away from home.
Norwich’s improvement in goals conceded has come at the expense of the other end with the Canaries scoring 18 goals fewer last season. Teemu Pukki is still key, and he still did score a lot of Championship goals, but there is a worry he could be more of a Mitrovic in the EPL rebound season. Hopefully not as we wish to have as many Pukki Parties as we can.
TEAMS – POINTS AND RESULTS
Following the goals scored Brentford were best for results against the top six, and Watford have a very big lean towards home results.
Championship winners Norwich have the lowest points per game against the better opposition.
Although Norwich have the best home v away balance.
