After a big Anzac Day weekend of rugby league, things go back to normal. Of sorts. Talking of normal, here are our Alternative NRL Round 8 Tips.
With your weekly NRL tipping, instead of allowing the competition admin to give you the away teams for when you don’t care about who you tip, why not take on board our weekly Alternative NRL Tipping method instead.
Each week we have a new theme, and occasionally it will have nothing to do with rugby league. Just the way we like it. This week is about the rugby league this season with tips decided on Post Contact Metres totals for each team.
In addition to that is a whole bunch of barely interesting stats for the round of NRL ahead. Impress your neighbours and fellow passengers by stealing them and sharing.
Good luck with your Alternative NRL Round 8 Tips if you choose to use them.

NRL Round 8 Tips Alternative – Gurgler v Post Contact Metres
So here are this week’s alternative tips. The method to how it works is below.
METHOD TO THE MADNESS
We have all the player stats at our finger tips, so all we did was roll each player’s post contact metres into their team for a total for each NRL side.
The team that has made the most post contact metres gets the tip.
We thought that post contact metres would be a good tip given the incredible work of Penrith’s Brian To’o last weekend. His post contact metre total was higher than all forwards except Payne Hass at the Broncos for All Run Metres not just post contact metres.
Although, the team with the most post contact metres aren’t going that well, so we wonder why we have used post contact metres in the first place.
These team total and top 20 players figures for Post Contact Metres is available below.

NRL Round 8 Tips – Barely Interesting Stats
- Canberra have won both of their home games on a Thursday. Souths and Canberra and Souths have never met on a Thursday. Since 1998 anyway.
- Melbourne have won just five of the last 11 games v Cronulla going back to 2016. In fact, the Storm’s worst winning % from 2016 is against Cronulla and the only team where the winning % is less than 50%.
- The Broncos have lost three in a row at home to the Titans. They also haven’t won a Friday home game since the original lockdown.
- Gold Coast are on a winning run of five games v Queensland opposition.
- Manly have won three in a row, all three have technically been at a neutral ground, or a ground that is not the regular home ground. Which is good because they meet Penrith in Bathurst.
- Penrith have lost their last two games in Bathurst and have a 50% winning record overall. Penrith’s last loss at home on a Saturday was in Bathurst in 2019.
- Bulldogs haven’t beaten Parramatta on a Saturday since 2005. It’s only four games but still.
- Going back to 2013, Parramatta have won just two of their last 12 away games on a Saturday.
- Newcastle have won just two of their last 14 against the Roosters. And six straight on a Saturday. Roosters have lost just two of their last 21 games on a Saturday.
- The 34 points North Queensland scored in their last away game Wests Tigers is just two points less than the 36 they had scored in their previous six away games (all losses) against NSW teams.

POST CONTACT METRES
Here are the totals for Post Contact Metres for each team so far this season, and then the top 20 players.
MELBOURNE WINNING % BY OPPONENTS SINCE 2016.
Melbourne always seem so unbeatable, but we have found a team in the last few seasons (going back to 2016) that has troubled the Storm like no other.
That team is actually the Cronulla Sharks.
They are the only competitor with a win record against the Storm greater than 50%.
