FPL Captain Tips Gameweek 19 – CAPTAIN’S TABLE

Here we assemble the finest stats we can think of to get the best picture of who should wear the armband for your team.

It is a mix of current FPL form, historical goal scoring and assist form v opponents, relative FPL performance per their cost and the difficulty of their upcoming game designed by our in house difficulty ratings system.

Each category is given a weighting, and points assigned relative to that high point. Each category score is totaled for he final score.

The final score is out of 100, with that high mark being a rare occurrence of aligning suns, moons and planets of FPL.

THE VERDICT

You have to go with a player with two games in FPL Gameweek 19 as our table above table shows. As good as Son and Kane have been, and the fact they are playing Sheffield Utd, you can’t beat players with a second chance to score points.

Bruno Fernandes and Mo Salah top this week’s captain’s table on stats, but there is a big worry with choosing either of those two. The reason is that they play each other in the weekend’s (and possibly the season so far) biggest match. And these games can occasionally be boring fizzers with few goals. So then you need to look at the next games, and for both these games are now harder than they probably would have been a month or so ago. Liverpool play Burnley who have become a team difficult to break down (as they showed v Man Utd) and Liverpool’s recent form isn’t great, or at least flowing with goals. Man Utd play Fulham who are becoming a very good defensive unit, and had a decent result at Spurs during the week.

For us, Manchester City’s double home games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa appear to offer a lot more in the attacking department. Although Man City were challenged by a good Brighton performance midweek. Phil Foden looked outstanding during the week and bobs up at position three on our Captain’s table, but can Pep be trusted to play him enough to warrant the armband? Probably not.

That leaves Kevin de Bruyne who one is almost certain will feature in both games, and he has been building each week. Eventually some of those shots are going to go in. His goals/assists record v both teams this gameweek is one per game or higher.

Of the rest Jamie Vardy is always good value but there’s always a doubt about fitness and whether Rodgers will start him twice. Marcus Rashford is a good left field choice and has an outstanding record v Fulham from one game, which makes his position a little higher than it may have in another week.

The real left field choice Michail Antonio who is back at the front of a West Ham team with two winnable home games, the one against West Brom especially. Given the big man put four past a similarly struggling Norwich last season, there’s a lingering thought he could go big this double gameweek. At least he’s in our side.

The final decision: Kevin de Bruyne
