Channel Nein have signed a new commentator for 2021: soon-to-be-ex US President Donald Trump.
With Joe Biden all but confirmed as the next president, Nein have decided to throw the unemployed Trump a lifeline.
“We love Trump’s vibe: he’s loud, brash, opinionated, fearless, and loves talking about how great he is. He’s perfect for our team,” said Nine CEO Hugh Marks.
While Trump has zero experience in rugby league commentary, Marks has a plan to get Trump to speed.
“As soon as Trump gets to Sydney, he’ll go into an intensive training camp with Rabbits, Gus, Freddy, and Joey. By the time the 2021 season starts, Trump will know more about footy than most ‘expert’ journos, if not more.”
Trump will be part of Nein’s crucial Friday night broadcast, with Marks encouraging him to be a brash as possible.
“If we want to beat Fox League, we need personalities. Trump has full reign to say whatever he wants: think of all the social media clicks we’ll get. Depending on his success, he might branch out to other shows.”
Trump will also host his own mid-week show, Six Again with Trump, analysing the previous round’s footy.
Phil Gould is delighted by the news. “I’m looking forward to welcoming Trump. At least I won’t be the most hated commentator anymore.”
