Alternative Week 5 Premier League Predictions 20-21 – Gurgler v First International Break

Wasn’t Premier League Gameweek 4 the best round of the season so far? We think, and have even bigger hopes ahead of this weekend, and we celebrate with our Alternative Week 5 Premier League Predictions

This continues our alternative way of selecting Premier League winners from last season and the first two weeks so far. Some of them based on football stats, and some have a very obscure link to football or news events of that week.

Given we are returning from the first annoying international break, why not use that history to determine winners.

To find out why and who, please read on in our Alternative Week 5 Premier League Predictions .

Alternative Week 5 Premier League Predictions – VAR Net Change of Result

This method is reasonably simple, we took the results from the past 10 seasons for the round after the first international break. Each of those results are compiled and an average points per game and winner determined.

So our theory is that teams that are better after the first international break are more likely that team is to win.

We say anyway.

Week 5 Premier League Predictions – Best of Barely Interesting Stats

Also from our full preview, we have the best of our barely interesting stats from the weekend’s fixtures. And who doesn’t love stats.

There have been no goals between Everton and Liverpool when it has played at Goodison Park on the last three occasions. The last goal scored at Goodison in this fixture was in December 2016, but at least was scored in the 94th minute meaning fans of either club have only had to wait 4.5 hours for a goal.

Southampton are unbeaten in four games v Chelsea on a Saturday in October. The last win for Chelsea came the weekend after James Hunt won the F1 World Championship in 1976.

Manchester City last played a home game v Arsenal on a Saturday in October in 1977. It was also the last time they have beaten Arsenal on a Saturday in October. Arsenal’s record after that match is four wins and two draws.

Man City have also won just one of the last five Saturday games, but have won four of the last five Saturday games at Manchester.

Man Utd have won the last four games on a Saturday at Newcastle. Man Utd scored 17 goals in those wins.

There have only been two Sunday clashes between Sheffield Utd and Fulham, both in cups. Fulham haven’t won either (1L 1D)

In the last four games v Crystal Palace, Brighton have scored 0,1,2,3 goals (most recent game first).

West Ham are having a very symmetrical season so far. Same points, goals for, goals against for both home and away. If only they were 11th then their table position would also be symmetrical. Even the xG for and against almost exactly matches the actuals.

There has only been one game at Leicester v Aston Villa on a Sunday. A 3-2 Leicester win in 2015.

There have been 14 games between Leeds and Wolves in October and all have them have been on a Saturday. Leeds have won 50% of them too.
