Alternative NRL Round 9 Tips Method – Referee Bias

If you are like us, and spend too much time on NRL tipping, only to get a lousy three or four correct, then we offer you our Alternative NRL Round 9 Tips.

Perhaps you could just follow an expert’s tips, but what’s the fun in that.

And instead of allowing the competition admin to give you the away teams for when you don’t care about who you tip, why not take on board our weekly Alternative NRL Tipping method?

Each week there will be a new theme, and occasionally it will have nothing to do with rugby league. Just the way we like it.

This week’s Alternative NRL Round 9 Tips are all about referees. After last week’s anger towards referees in the Manly-Newcastle game, and the constant cries about bias, we thought we’d use such results to determine NRL winners.

Our theory is that a side’s chances winning can be determined more by the referee than you think. Ashley Klein v Penrith once that comes to come.

Enough of that for now, your Alternative NRL Round 9 Tipping guide awaits.

METHOD

Thanks to the meticulous records from this excellent website we have every referee’s record in the NRL. Within this feast of football data, they have the winning percentage of each team under each referee. They also have the team’s overall winning percentage. So from there a % difference is worked out between the overall winning % and the team’s % under each ref.

For our exercise we take whether the winning % is less or more under each referee for this week.

The higher the percentage, the more likely the team will be favourably assisted by that referee, and hence win.

Included blow is the full list for the weekend ahead. Some interesting figures. Conspiracy theorists about their team and certain referees may have a point when looking at Penrith and the Bulldogs.

Season Progress:

R4 – Full Moon – 4/8
R5 – Better Coaching Record  – 6/8
R6 – Neutral Ground Performance – 4/8
