MAN UTD (1.9) to beat West Ham (1.1)

ARSENAL (1.8) to beat Aston Villa (1.1)

CHELSEA (1.8) to beat Liverpool (1.1)

TIPS BACKGROUND: This one is easy. We’ve taken 10 seasons of stats, and worked out how each team does after the first International break, the higher the average points, the more they are to win, so they get the selection.

Below is each team’s record in the first gameweek after the European competitions for the last 10 seasons.

Surprisingly, the best team after European games is not listed as a current EPL side but is West Brom. Spurs and Leicester win the current Premier League teams stats, coincidental that they meet on this weekend.. Brighton have never scored a point after the first European break.

Team Avg Points
Tottenham 2.2
Leicester 2.2
Southampton 2.1
Manchester United 1.9
Chelsea 1.8
Arsenal 1.8
Manchester City 1.8
Watford 1.8
Burnley 1.6
Everton 1.6
Bournemouth 1.5
Newcastle United 1.5
Crystal Palace 1.2
Aston Villa 1.1
West Ham 1.1
Liverpool 1.1
Wolverhampton Wanderers 1.0
Norwich 1.0
Brighton 0.0

And the average points based on each competition. No surprise really since the better teams play in the better competitions.

Team Average of Points
Champions League                                     2.15
Europa League                                     1.55
(blank)                                     1.13

SOUTHAMPTON v BOURNEMOUTH

FRIDAY 8:00pm

OUR R.I.C.K. EFFECT MATCH RATING (out of 20)

Rivalry lnterest Currrent Form Klassiker Style Total
5 2 3 3 13

A nice South Coast derby to kick off the weekend with the two teams separated by just 50km. Although Portsmouth would be a bigger rival to Southampton, they are down in the third tier and that H2H probably won’t happen again for a while. Both teams sit in midfield and had good wins last weekend and play in a decent style, but outside of the Friday night kick off wouldn’t be a game too many would be eagerly anticipating.

MATCH STATS

Plenty of draws and Southampton wins over the past 10 seasons, but crucially Bournemouth have the only win at a similar kick off time, showing that the night time is the right time to win.

BARELY INTERESTING FACTS

Four of the last six games have ended in a draw.

These teams have never met in the second tier of English football.

OUR FINAL SAY

Southampton 1 Bournemouth 0

BEST BET

Under 2.5 Goals @ $2.08

James Ward-Prowse – First Goalscorer @ $.7.00

LEICESTER v SPURS

OUR R.I.C.K. EFFECT MATCH RATING (out of 20)

The game of the day on Saturday sees both teams needing to impress on their most recent match. Leicester at old Trafford and Spurs in Greece during the weekend. Both sides play good football, and there’s plenty of interesting players to keep one interested. Nice choice for the early kick off.

MATCH STATS

A solid average of 4 goals a game across these games in the past 10 seasons. Stats are heavily weighed in Spurs’ favour. Especially the early kick off time. And games on a Saturday. Looks like it will be a break in stats for the Foxes to win. This is the kind of game Leicester needs to win if they want to be genuine top six or even top four.

BARELY INTERESTING FACT

Leicester haven’t beaten Spurs on a Saturday since 2002. They have won just 1/6 home games since.

OUR FINAL SAY

Leicester 2 Spurs 1

BEST BET

Leicester to win @ $2.80

Jamie Vardy – First Goalscorer @ $5.00

MANCHESTER CITY v WATFORD

2 5 2 4 13

Not much rivalry to speak of, except revenge for Watford after the FA Cup final spanking. Always plenty of interest in Man City games, even more so after last weekend’s loss at Norwich. There’s the interest of Watford with their new-old manager. Should be decent to watch too, if only for the goals.

MATCH STATS

Everything points to a City victory, although Man City appear not to be quite as ruthless at home.

BARELY INTERESTING FACT

Man City have beaten Watford by exactly two goals in their last five home games against Watford.

OUR FINAL SAY

Man City 3 Watford 1

BEST BET

Man City to win by exactly two goals @ $3.75

One for the fans this game. With no rivalry and form slipping with each week, this looks a game for those with Fantasy Football interests or betting.

MATCH STATS

No Graphic for this game due to Sheffield Utd’s absence from the EPL in the last 10 seasons.

But the overall H2H is 53-47 to Everton with 31 draws. The most recent match was in 2011 in the League Cup where Everton won 3-1 at home.

BARELY INTERESTING FACT

OUR R.I.C.K. EFFECT MATCH RATING (out of 20)

Rivalry lnterest Currrent Form Klassiker Style Total
1 3 3 3 10

A game of little rivalry but increasing interest. Both teams playing above expectations, no more so than Norwich beating Man City last weekend. The battle of all out attack v tighter defence should be pretty interesting.

MATCH STATS

Not a great amount of games to use from the last 10 seasons of fixtures, but Norwich are surely in the right form to turn that stat around.

BARELY INTERESTING FACT

Norwich have not won at Burnley since 200, where they triumphed 5-3. They have missed out out on another four since.

OUR FINAL SAY

Burnley 1 Norwich 1

BEST BET

The late Saturday kick off will hardly be one neutrals will be looking out for. At least Brighton are playing better football this season, and Newcastle aren’t quite as hopeless as most thought at the start of the season.

MATCH STATS

All even between the teams and the draws overall in the past ten seasons, but the upper hand goes to Brighton in September, but the later kick off suiting Newcastle more.

BARELY INTERESTING FACT

Eight of the last nine matches between these teams has seen two goals or less.

OUR FINAL SAY

Newcastle 0 Brighton 1

One of four Sunday games with League Cup duties awaiting, and this games does provide some interest in how these teams bunce back after heavy losses last weekend.Interest in Wolves is higher than usual given how their solid defence is being leakingand their position in the bottom three.

MORE STUFF

The match rating is our thoughts on how exciting a neutral should get about the game. We rank it by if it is a great rivalry, whether at least one of the teams are in good form, whether they play decent football or dross, and general interest. Whether the team has a star player, crazy manager, give away lots of red cards, or have a Rene Higuita style goalkeeper. We wish anyway. Each field is rated out of five and the grand total out of 20.
