Ever wondered which Premier League side has the easiest or hardest set of upcoming fixtures? Well allow us to present our Week 5 Premier League Fixtures Difficulty Rating.
Proud partners of The Gurgler – S&C Sports Data – have come up with a measure to judge the difficulty factor for each team over the next three games.
We could go further, but we think three games provides just enough window for FPL players, late night sports fans in Australia, or multi loving gamblers alike.
How our Premier League Fixtures Difficulty Rating works….
S&C Sports Data have data from 10 seasons of Premier League, and created a measure of each team’s head to head record over that period, on a sliding scale from current day backwards.
Then the team in question and the opposition’s overall and recent form is taken into consideration, including measuring the relative form of the two sides.
The Match Rater 3000 score is then produced, with a range of 1 being the easiest possible fixture up to 10 for the hardest.
So the S&C measure combines many fields to give an overall picture.

Week 5 Premier League Fixtures Difficulty Rating Trends
- Spurs get a chance to get their season going over the next three games with an overall rating of 3.0 for their next fixtures, and the lowest rating.
- Burnley have the easiest run according to us for the teams outside of the big six. Perhaps more goals coming from Barnes.
- Watford’s life under their new-old manager appears like it won’t be easy, topping the difficulty fixtures list for Week 5.
- Below are some interesting tables showing the progress of difficulty ratings for both the big six teams and the promoted sides. You’ll see Spurs difficulty factor is dropping nicely, and Chelsea’s is on the way up. For the promoted teams, the question is if Sheffield Utd have taken the advantage of easier fixtures given their steady rise from Week 1. We say yes the Blades have been (Billy) sharp early this season for a promoted side.
