Premier League Predictions Week 35 – Gurgler v FPL Fantasy Football

With just a few weeks of the Premier League to go, there are battles on four fronts, and so our Premier League Predictions Week 35 have never been more important. Says us anyway.

Every week we offer up our Premier League predictions, along with a mini preview of each match, with a few best bets in an alternative Premier League preview.

We also put our tips up against a competitor, usually not human though, and based on some football stat or general life. This week our tipping opponent is based on how many FPL Fantasy Football points each team has accumulated so far this season.

It’s a lot like the BBC’s Lawros tips, but better. Arguably.

Premier League Predictions Week 35 – Gurgler v FPL Fantasy Football Points

Total Points for each team in brackets.

MAN CITY (1925) to beat  Spurs (1639)
WATFORD (1300) to beat Huddersfield (954)
BOURNEMOUTH (1318) to beat Fulham (931)
LEICESTER (1319) to beat West Ham (1245)
WOLVES (1288) to beat Brighton (1096)
NEWCASTLE (1243) to beat Southampton (1096)
EVERTON (1434) to beat Man Utd (1405)
LIVERPOOL (1947) to beat Cardiff (1209)
ARSENAL (1493) to beat Crystal Palace (1375)
CHELSEA (1627) to beat Burnley (1177)
SPURS (1639) to beat Brighton (1096)
WATFORD (1300) to beat Southampton (1096)
ARSENAL (1493) to beat Wolves (1288)
MAN CITY (1925) to beat Man Utd (1405)

TIPS BACKGROUND: Since FPL Fantasy Premier League is so big, and that we do regular weekly previews on FPL, we are surprised we haven’t used stats from FPL until now.

We could choose from way too many stats, but to keep it simple we are using the total points scored by every player in each team, and comparing who has the most in a head to head.

So whoever has more points wins, and we have the overall totals for each team which is interesting when comparing to the usual league total.

Premier League Predictions Week 35 Mini Match by Match Preview

Here’s a quick run down of every game for Week 35, with a barely interesting stat included for those inclined.

MAN CITY v SPURS

Kick Off: Saturday 12:30pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Spurs 0 Man City 1

What a shame this match has to come so close after one of the games of the footballing season during the week in the Champions League.

Man City can now only win a treble, thanks to Spurs hanging on for a 4-3 loss against Man City, with VAR’s assistance.

Both still have plenty to play for in the league, Man City still slightly in the box seat against Liverpool thanks to a game in hand. Spurs need to ensure third place is not available to nay of the chasing pack.

Barely Interesting Fact: Man City have scored 55 goals at home this season, better than every other team outside of the top 6 for the entire season both home/away.

HUDDERSFIELD v WATFORD

Kick Off: Saturday 3:00pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Watford 3 Huddersfield 0

Huddersfield looks like end of season goal difference booster at the moment for opposition teams, a worry as they slide into the most competitive league in Europe next year. With the manager reportedly on the nose already, they may want fresh blood again for the second division.

A game of what could have been for Watford v Arsenal during the week, who knows what happens if the predictable Troy Deeney aggression is only met with a yellow.

Barely Interesting Fact: Huddersfield scored 5 goals in two pre season friendlies at home. They have only scored eight goals all season at home.

BOURNEMOUTH v FULHAM

Kick Off: Saturday 3:00pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Fulham 0 Bournemouth 3

Anyone who picked either of these team’s results last are worth keeping close for further betting insight. Bournemouth have been terrible on the road in the second half of the season, and cracks had also appeared at home, but the big win over Brighton should give them loads of confidence. Same for Fulham who taste victory after nine consecutive losses.

Barely Interesting Fact: Fulham last beat Bournemouth in 1994 (% Draw + 2 Losses since). Bournemouth have won the last three by a combined 10-1.

WEST HAM v LEICESTER

Kick Off: Saturday 3:00pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Leicester 1 West Ham 1

Leicester’s great run under Rodgers hit a Newcastle sized bump last weekend. Perhaps they don’t like the Friday fixtures. Still they are fourth in last six form, and continue in the battle for the barely coveted seventh place, which they currently hold. West Ham should also be right in the battle too, and if they beat Leicester will get within three points. But they’re so bloody unpredictable. They also have a poor record against the other sides hunting for seventh.

Barely Interesting Fact: West Ham have lost at home to every other club that you would class as a similar team from the midfield. Everton 0-2, Bournemouth 1-2, Wolves 0-1, Watford 0-2.

WOLVES v BRIGHTON

Kick Off: Saturday 3:00pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Brighton 1 Wolves 0

Both sides have starting losing a bit more in the past few weeks than usual, problem for Brighton is that their four losses in a row, an loss to Cardiff at home in midweek sees them now just two points ahead of Cardiff in third last. Their goal difference advantage may save them. They need Glenn Murray goals more than ever. Losses for Wolves meanwhile sees them drop below seventh in the chase for best of the rest. The competition for best promoted side was sewn up a while ago.

Barely Interesting Fact: Wolves have a poor record against the current bottom four. Just one win, one draw and four losses against Brighton, Cardiff, Fulham and Huddersfield.

NEWCASTLE v SOUTHAMPTON

Kick Off: Saturday 530pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Southampton 0 Newcastle 0

Southampton are going quite well, their manager change working very nicely. Had he been around at the start of the season, the Saints may well be in he upper midfield battle. All without strikers who score many goals. Newcastle too have improved in the second half of the season. We’re still waiting for Almiron to have a break out game, and it will probably be this weekend when he has been moved out of our FPL side.

Barely Interesting Fact: Southampton are currently 5th in last six start form. Southampton have only won one game in 14 years at Newcastle.

EVERTON v MAN UTD

Kick Off: Sunday 1:30pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Man Utd 2 Everton 1

Everton’s great run of form was ended by Fulham of all teams, but it’s probably not a bad time to meet Man Utd after their Champions League exit distracts them. Man Utd now need that fourth place for more of the same European nights out next year.

Barely Interesting Fact: Everton last won this fixture in 2015. It was the last of three straight defeats by the Toffees over Man Utd.

ARSENAL v CRYSTAL PALACE

Kick Off: Sunday 4:00pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Arsenal 2 Crystal Palace 2

We reckon this could be a sleeper game of the weekend. Arsenal are so strong at home, and Crystal Palace are very good away, having beaten Man City and really pushed Liverpool on the road. Great forwards on either side, and occasionally generous defences, means perhaps a goal fest.

Barely Interesting Fact: Arsenal are the 3rd best this season at home, just four points from the summit of home form. Crystal Palace are strong away from home, they are 7th in away form, and won three of their last three.

CARDIFF v LIVERPOOL

Kick Off: Sunday 4:00pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Liverpool 4 Cardiff 1

Liverpool can win every game and still not take the title, and the worry is that Man City may be even more dangerous in the League without the Champions League to worry about. So Liverpool need to keep winning and against Cardiff they probably will. Although their record against the very bottom teams means it probably won’t be a flogging that you’d expect from Man City. Cardiff are also doing their very best to survive, they have probably written off these three points, but a feisty Warnock in charge means anything could happen.

Barely Interesting Fact: Liverpool’s record against the bottom four isn’t great aside from the previous big win over Cardiff. The other games have seen slender victories of 1-0 x 3, 2-1 x 1, 2-0 x 1.

CHELSEA v BURNLEY

Kick Off: Monday 8:00pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Burnley 0 Chelsea 4

Chelsea will need to keep winning to stay in the hunt for fourth, although they do have the Europa League. They only played Thursday night too in a surprisingly close and high scoring game against Slavia Prague.Burnley basically guaranteed safety by beating Cardiff last weekend, so have less to play for. Expecting a Hazard masterclass to wow Real Madrid.

Barely Interesting Fact: Chelsea have only won 2/5 at home to Burnley this century. 2W 2D 1L.

SPURS v BRIGHTON

Kick Off: Tuesday 7:45pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Brighton 1 Spurs 2

If Brighton have lost to Wolves earlier in the weekend then they will be and should be quite worried. This could a kind of game where Spurs go ballistic in front of their fans at the new ground. And Son looks in great form as he shines without Harry Kane around. Controversial maybe, but what if Spurs sold Kane for a premium to allow Son to take over at the front?

Barely Interesting Fact: Brighton would be third last with just eight points from 13 games if the results were taken from January 1. Spurs would be 16th if the table started on Valentine’s day.

WATFORD v SOUTHAMPTON

Kick Off: Tuesday 7:45pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Southampton 1 Watford 1

Hopefully goals a plenty between two sides who have nothing else to play for except having a good time and winning.

Barely Interesting Fact:There has been at least one draw in each season these teams have played in the same division.

WOLVES v ARSENAL

Kick Off: Wednesday 7:45pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Wolves 1 Arsenal 1

A tough game for Arsenal as they are poor away from home, and Wolves quite good against the top six at home. An important game for the top four race.

Barely Interesting Fact: Wolves haven’t won at Arsenal since 1979.

MAN UTD v MAN CITY

Kick Off: Wednesday 8:00pm UK
Previous 2018-19 Result: Man City x Man Utd 0

A Manchester derby, and hard for Utd – what do they do? A win or draw will hand Liverpool the momentum in the title race, and a loss hands their local rivals a win in front of their fans. A real lose-lose situation. Tough two games for Man City after their Champions League exit. Will it be sook or smash from Pep and his men?

Barely Interesting Fact: Man Utd have only beaten Man City once  since 2010.
