2024 Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix Preview – Race Potential Rating

F1 2023 - Fabi Preview Index Feature Image

The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.

So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.

FAST? 8 / 10 – It’s pretty bloody fast for a street circuit, and certainly better than most street tracks in the USA. Especially the previous effort in Las Vegas. The cars reach 350km/h down The Strip which is pretty exciting, and there’s not too much Mickey Mouse slow sections.

ACTION? 7 / 10 – There was enough action in the first race last season to keep us interested. Although some of that was off track, or really on track as the drain covers destroyed a Ferrari and no one was sure if the practice session was going to go ahead or not. One wonders with the race not being as much of a novelty this season the drivers might have more of a go. Will be interesting to see if Lance Stroll can think of something more creative than his Brazilian GP exit.

BIG HISTORY? – 3 / 10 – Not really. The first incarnation of the Las Vegas GP was actually called the Caesar’s Palace GP and was run in the carpark of that Casino. For two years, and was terrible. US does have a great history of US street tracks, and most of them awful, except Long Beach.

INCLEMENT WEATHER? – 4 /10  The Weather Channel says not much chance of rain, but due to the night time kick off time for most of the sessions, the cold temperatures certainly do come into play. As do the drain covers.

RACE POTENTIAL RATING 55% It’s style over substance for now.
