F1 | 2024 Dutch F1 Grand Prix Preview

The Gurgler’s 2024 Dutch F1 Grand Prix Preview brings some thoughts on the race itself, a few bold predictions here and there, a more than a few barely interesting stats.

2024 Dutch F1 Grand Prix Preview – Race Potential Rating

F1 2023 - Fabi Preview Index Feature Image

The Gurgler does like to use some obscure drivers in our Race previews and report, so who better to use than Teo Fabi to determine a race rating system.

So before each race we give a rating out of ten for four key category that are loosely based on each letter of Teo Fabi’s surname. Don’t know who Teo Fabi is, you should.

FAST? 8/10 – It always feels fast this track, even if it really isn’t. Good old fashioned pit straight into the famous Tarzan corner for overtaking. And how can you not like a corner called Tarzan. The skate park bowl curve for turn three. The sweeping back section. The banked final corner. Lots to like, most of it looks fast and is fast.

ACTION? 6/10 – The modern day Dutch GPs have been dominated by Max Verstappen at the front, but with some great corners it always looks impressive enough. Second place has come from as far down the grid as 6th and third place as far as 12th in the three recent events. So there’s room to move on race day.

BIG HISTORY? – 6/10 – The Dutch GP had a decent history up to the mid 1980’s, with a Grand Prix most years won by some of the big names. And a few iconic moments, like the first win for the iconic Ford Cosworth engine in 1967, an engine that went on to win hundreds of Grands Prix. Then there’s a big of wild driving from Gilles Villeneuve. And it just feels like looking at Zandvoort you can remember all the great F1 Season reviews from the 80’s, particularly the Clive James ones.

INCLEMENT WEATHER? – 4 /10  The Weather Channel says a 20-30% chance of rain on the Saturday and Sunday, so that’s a bit low. But the track is right on the sea, so who knows what the weather will do.

RACE RATING 60% The return to F1 racing is almost enough, and this track is plenty fun.
