NRL Round 3 Stats Summary – Points of Interest
HOME WINS CONTINUE
You may not remember, but Round 2 saw the home side win all the matches for the first time for a full eight game round since Round 26 in 2014. Well Round 3 saw that almost repeated with seven home wins from the eight games. So that’s 15 home wins in the last 16 games.
POINTLESS RABBITOHS
South Sydney haven’t started 2024 very well. In fact they have been ordinary for a while now. Souths have won just four games of 16 since leading the competition in Round 11 last season. But their 0-3 record isn’t as regular as you’d think. You have to go all the way back to 2008 for the last time South Sydney lost their first three games of the season. Coincidentally it took them until Round 8 to win their first game.
IN OTHER WOODEN SPOON NEWS….
The Gold Coast Titans have opened the season with two losses in a row and currently ahead of Souths thanks to a bye but are arguably going worse than the Rabbitohs. It was the ninth time under the Titans banner that the Gold Coast were kept scoreless. This was the ninth time in their history that they failed to score. They are equal fifth worst for zero points, but more on that later.
Not only was it zero points v Bulldogs, but the Titans also scored zero in the second half in their opening round match v Dragons. Which means three of their four halves this season have been pointless. In their last nine matches five of their halves have passed without scoring. Five other halves in that run have seen six points or less.
Talking of zero points, here is the stats for teams scoring zero point since the Titans arrived in 2007.
GRAND FINAL REMATCH
Of the 26 Grand Final rematches since 1999, 13 reigning premiers have lost and 13 have now won the first match after the Grand Final in the next season. Penrith’s record is W4 L1, and Brisbane are W1 L4.
