Mob Chat, the official podcast for the Australian crime drama Mob Force, has officially ended after 80 episodes.
The show ran from 2012-2015, with 48 episodes over four seasons, with the podcast starting in 2021.
“We were full of enthusiasm at the start,” said Mob Force host Adam Peacock (who played Nick Caruso in the show). “Enough time had passed so it felt like the boys and I were revisiting the show with fresh eyes. It was a lot of fun reminiscing about behind the scenes stuff and talking a bit of nonsense in between. And we got a lot of nice feedback from fans who enjoyed rewatching the show along with us.”
But the comfortable run ended in June last year when their producer Simon Jones got another gig on a weekly NRL podcast.
“That threw us off. No dramas on Jonesy getting a new job, but we struggled without him. We tried to carry on ourselves, but we got sidetracked too easily without him. One episode we spent 40 minutes talking about our favourite fast food places,” said Adam.
With Adam starting a new show on Stan, the boys agreed to put the podcast on hiatus until they found a new producer.
“We never got around to finding a new producer. I was busy with my show and the other boys were busy with their projects. The longer it went on, the less we cared about the pod.”
Though fan feedback eventually prompted Adam to do something about it.
“I had all these fans message me after we stopped the pod, asking me when it was coming back. I put up a Twitter post saying the pod was on ‘indefinite hiatus’, but they still kept asking and it was starting to give me the shits. There was one guy who runs an official Facebook fan page for the podcast – he was the most persistent. I ended up blocking him because he wouldn’t stop asking me the same bloody questions.”
While catching up for drinks over Christmas, Adam asked the boys about resuming the podcast.
“They weren’t interested as they were too busy and Jonesy wasn’t coming back. I was relieved.”
Adam officially ended the podcast with a Facebook post on January 2:
The boys at the Mob Chat podcast have agreed to finish up the pod. It was a lot of fun, but we’ve all got new projects, we haven’t replaced Jonesy, and we’re all happy to move on. I know some fans will be upset by this, but if you’re that passionate about Mob Force, then feel free to start your own fan podcasts. I’m sure you can dedicate more time and enthusiasm to it than I can. Or you can re-listen to the 80-odd podcast episodes and experience the show all over again.
