EVERYDAY NEWS – The Resolutionists

While there’s still two months until Christmas, one local gym is already preparing for the annual January rush.

Fitspo gym in Brisbane is a relatively small gym, but it always picks up after New Year’s, when tons of punters – motivated by a ‘desire’ to get fit in the new year – join up.

“I started here three years ago and that first January shocked me,” said Fitspo employee Sarah. “The place was packed from New Year’s Day and up until mid-January. I was new, stressed, and was wondering why my co-workers were so relaxed. Then I realised why.”

As the month wore on, these newly ‘motivated’ gym goers stared to trickle away, as most people went back to work and began preparing for schools to return.

“Once we get through the first two weeks, things get back to normal. Most of the new people are gone by Valentine’s Day. We call them ‘The Resolutionists’ now.”

To liven things up, Sarah and her co-workers have decided to bet on which punters last the longest.

“I’ve learnt to spot the ones who don’t last long. The ones who grunt and carry on like they’re pro athletes are usually gone a couple of weeks later. They use the heat as an ‘excuse’, even though we have brilliant air con. You just know they’re sitting on their butts watching the cricket or tennis,” said Sarah. “Is it legal to bet on which client lasts the longest? Probably not, but it’s funny. And the last person standing gets a JB Hi-Fi gift voucher.”

Everyday News is a brand new general news/parody section of The Gurgler, and definitely not a lame rip-off of ‘The Betoota Advocate’. We swear.
