THE GURGLERBET WEEKEND SPORTING HIGHLIGHTS
Here are the GurglerBet choice sporting events for the weekend ahead that you should probably tune into, and a special betting offer from each that you probably won’t find anywhere else.
ASHES FIFTH TEST
THURSDAY TO …… (WEATHER PENDING)
So rain ruined the last test. Makes sense really, that the test was ruined by waterworks, since there’s been so much bawling during the Ashes series so far.
England were probably rightly peeved not winning the fourth test though, as they did dominate most of the match. Plenty of moaning followed, and changes being thrown around that no team holds onto a trophy if the series is tied. We’ll remember that for the next time England draw a series.
Anyways, Australia were pretty ordinary, and haven’t been great since the second test, so momentum is with England, and if they don’t want to hear about the fourth test for the next few years should come out and wallop England in the final match at The Oval.
Hopefully Michael Neser finally gets a game, with the bag of wickets he’ll take and runs scored a good thing, and a bad thing as he could have done it all series.
As for who makes way, probably one of the all rounders, but maybe Australia could be bold and drop David Warner. Having three genuine bowling all rounders, plus a regular four could be a great weapon against Bazball. It’s not as if Warner is out-scoring the bowlers by much anyway.
Whatever happens, it’s still a glorious night time background TV watch.
GOLF – THE SENIOR OPEN – AKA BRITISH OPEN FOR ALL YOUR OLD FAVOURITES
THURSDAY TO SUNDAY
If you’re like us and only tune in for the premium golfing events like the US Masters and The Open last weekend, often ignoring the US Open because it’s usually played on a course that’s too hard, and the US PGA is the Ringo Starr of golfing majors, but still remember golf from back in the day well the Senior Open is for you.
Of course some of our favourite golfers of all time will be there.
Miguel Angel Jiminez, Rod Pampling, Bernard Langer are there of course, all of those featuring in the leaderboard of the US version a month or so ago.
But there’s so many names-you-know. Some you may not have thought about for a decade, and more. The best are below.
John Senden, Colin Montgomerie, Ian Woosnam, Peter O’Malley, Jeff Maggert, Billy Mayfair just to name a few. And we’re sure they’ll all be signing autographs.
So tune in for a trip down memory lane, that hopefully ends with the winner with a trophy in one hand, and a cigar in the other.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL WORLD CUP
ONGOING TO AUGUST 20
The Matildas look to continue their World Cup title tilt on Thursday as they take on African footballing powerhouse Nigeria. After thrashing Ireland 1-0 with a goal from the penalty spot, Nigeria will be worried heading into that big game, and that’s without Sam Kerr to worry about. A win would guarantee knockout stage football, which would be good for crowd and TV numbers.
Most of the other games in the coming week sees a lot of one-sided match ups, but they haven’t been going to plan thus far, with New Zealand opening up the tournament with an upset, only to be upset themselves by The Philippines.
So bargain hunters could look to Costa Rica @ $19 to beat Japan, or the $56 for Zambia to beat Spain. Or Vietnam at $19 to beat Portugal. Vietnam did OK in their first game, losing by only 3-0 to the mighty USA team when they were $126 outsiders.
There are actually games that are even, and none better than France v Brazil on Saturday night in Brisbane. Although England v Denmark could be good too, same with Sweden v Italy.
Four games a day for those football fans who can’t get enough. If you have the Optus app.
BELGIAN F1 GRAND PRIX
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY
So Max Verstappen won another race, there’s a surprise. The Red Bull team have now broken the record for the longest winning streak in F1, overtaking the dominant Prost/Senna 1988 McLaren. That car won 15/16 races that season, and this Red Bull looks like it could win them all. Except the split won’t be as close as the 8-7 from 1988.
At least the reintroduction of Daniel Ricciardo and sudden rocket status of the McLaren has given the field a bit more buzz. Lewis Hamilton in form too after taking pole in Hungary means a few more drivers nipping at the heels of Max and his bull.
Regardless of the winner on Sunday, the Belgian track is one of the best, a circuit of pure magnificence and by far the best track in F1. So to a degree it doesn’t matter who wins. But it is also a place where rain is regular, so anything could happen.
And it’s the last race before a four week break, so no excuses to miss a little bit of sleep on Sunday night. Why not have a multiple screen feast with Ashes and Golf.

NRL / NRLW
THURSDAY TO SUNDAY
Just six rounds to go of the NRL, and with the ladder so close for top four and top eight, every match is important now. Only the wooden spoon has really been decided, but at least that means it won’t be heading to Redcliffe.
The NRL goes a little regional this weekend with games in Tamworth and Bundaberg, something they should really do more of. The first of those games sees two busted arse sides going head to head in Souths v Wests Tigers, but at least Latrell Mitchell is back to make it interesting. In Bundy, the Bulldogs are the home side welcoming the Dolphins for the trip north. A win for the Dolphins could keep an unlikely finals tilt alive, while the Bulldogs would like a win to shut everyone up. Seemingly the new Wests Tigers for Fox League bashing journalists.
The weekend kicks off at the Gabba, which is a line we’d never thought we’d ever use. This sees the Broncos play the Roosters. Broncos are going very well and genuine title contenders while the Roosters seem to be following the moon cycle and playing good every fourth week. But the Roosters do have the recent H2H advantage. A classic form v stats game.
Melbourne v Parramatta on Friday looks good too, with another ordinary Melbourne performance a point of interest to see if Craig Bellamy’s coaching box can be picked up on the Richter scale.

THE GURGLERBET DRAW OF THE WEEK
Just because a game is tied doesn’t mean it is boring or you can’t make money from it. Well, it can still be boring in the greater context of the actual game being played, but not the tension that hanging on to a 0-0 for your bet gets you.
We get our leading draw expert and host of the Frankely Speaking podcast that focuses only on draws in football and the related betting on draws – Frankington Stanley. He has scoured the many football divisions from all over the world to provide his best draw option for you.
This week Frank supplies more draw gold.
For form, two weeks ago Frank sealed a double of Egyptian and African Football draws at $2.87 each. Then last week it was a 0-0 of his finest in the Czech league.
Ecuadorian Serie B Football
CD America de Quito – $2.70
