Round of 16 Brazil v South Korea Match Review

Minutes that Mattered

Welcome to the briefest of match summaries, like a minute by minute you find on professional websites except one that has only the minutes that matter. All wheat, no  chaff.

And if the below isn’t enough, for those in Australia you can catch up via the SBS World Cup on Demand.

7’ Min GOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL FOR BRAZIL

The goal was set up by Raphiniha who danced his way down the right through the Korean defence then put in the cross along the six yard box, which evades Neymar’s efforts but reaches Vinícius Júnior waiting at the other side of the penalty area, he thinks about it for a split second then drills home the shot into the far right corner for a wonderful goal. And talking of wonderful, the dancing celebrations from Brazil post-goal are always welcome.

BRAZIL 1 KOREA 0

10’ PENALTY FOR BRAZIL

Richarlison is hacked down in the box and the referee immediately blows his whistle for the spot kick. The ball is handed to Neymar to allow him to open his scoring for the tournament.

12’ Min GOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL FOR BRAZIL

A what a cheeky penalty it is. He stutters, and he stops, and he casually pushes the ball to the right as the keeper stays in the middle not knowing which way to go. This is the kind of start Brazil have been threatening to do this World Cup but not yet managed it.

BRAZIL 2 KOREA 0

16’ Min Woof, what a shot for Korea’s Hwang Hee-chan. From distance he blasts it towards the top right corner and requires a good save from the Brazil keeper to keep it out.

25’ Min Corner for Korea who are slowly building their way into the game, and the end result is another long range attempt, and this one requires less saving, but Brazil are on warning for any shot at any time from Korea.

29’ Min GOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL FOR BRAZIL

Some magic from Brazil as they score their third. Richarlison does a little keepy-uppy on the edge of the box, then comes two quick, crisp passes between the Brazilians finds Richarlison in space and he easily tucks the ball away to score. Too easy, too beautiful from Brazil.

BRAZIL 3 KOREA 0

34’ Min Korea are still trying their hardest despite the deficit and keeping Brazil under some kind of pressure.

36’ Min GOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL FOR BRAZIL

A counter attacking charge down field by the Bleach Boys of Richarlison and Neymar finds Vinícius Júnior on the outside as ever and not for the first time this World Cup he produces the perfect cross, this one a chipped version to a waiting Lucas Paqueta who easily tucks the ball home. He then treats himself, and fans around the world to some stylish dance moves post-goal.

BRAZIL 4 KOREA 0

A sick Pele somewhere in Brazil would certainly approve of this performance from Brazil.

HALF TIME – BRAZIL 4 KOREA 0

46′ Min  Brazil get a shot away within 30 seconds onf kick off for the second half. This could be quite be quite the score.

47′ Min  Korea aren’t stuffing around either with a long ball from inside their own half landing at Son Heung-min and he drives towards the box and shoots and draws a good save from Alisson.

54′ Min  Raphinha goes close to helping himself to goal, but his shot is well saved by the Korean keeper.

56′ Min  Free kick to Brazil in a dangerous territory. Dangerous being within 100m of the Korean goal. Raphinha’s shot Pink Floyds it. A resulting corner goes nowhere.

60′ Min  Raphinha goes close again, and he must score soon surely. This shot at the near post is well saved.

68′ Min  Brazil are giving Korea absolutely nothing here. Hwang Hee-chan’s shot is well saved by Alisson, the post-shot scramble sees a number of blocks and clearances from Brazil. They seem to want the clean sheet as much as the next goal. We can respect that.

70’ Min GOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL FOR SOUTH KOREA

What a cracking goal from Paik Seung-ho. Just before the goal Korea have a free kick which bounces off the wall and falls to Paik Seung-ho, who allows one bounce for composure then smashes a curved shot into the right side of the goal. Nice goal and no less than they deserve after continuing to battle despite being 4-0 at half time.

BRAZIL 4 KOREA 1

80′ Min  Brazil ensure every player grabs a minute of World Cup action as Alisson comes from the field and third goalie Weverton makes an entrance.

90′ Min  Both sides continue to try and score for our entertainment, which is most welcome, and the added four minutes makes no difference as the score remains 4-1.

Points of Interest

  • There has not been enough post-goal dancing this World Cup. Perhaps players are scared Qatar security would crack down on anything extravagant on the pitch as they are off it. But Brazil did lay on some nice moves against Korea, and they had quite a few opportunities to do so, so we hope they go long into tournament.
