Group C Saudi Arabia v Mexico Match Summary

Mexico have come close to qualifying for the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup but a late goal for Saudi Arabia ruined their chances when they needed a third goal to overtake Poland.

Prior to the morale busting Saudi Arabia goal Mexico’s 2-0 lead had them on equal points and equal goal difference to Poland after they drew 0-0 on game day one. Poland were in the qualification spot on FIFA Fair Play….

Going into the final minutes Poland were 2-0 down v Argentina at the same time as Mexico were 2-0 up and either a goal for Mexico or goal to Argentina would see Mexico through.

But in added time Saudi Arabia scored a goal to break the Mexican hearts. A further twist was still available, because if Saudi Arabia could get another goal and draw they would take second spot ahead.

It was an action packed match that had Group C in suspense for every minute of the group stages.

Why should you care?

Because this game could see either Saudi Arabia top the group or missed out completely from the knockout stages. Mexico too can qualify for the knockout stage with a win and other results, but since they really haven’t looked winning yet we’ll see they will miss out, but who knows with this World Cup.

Who should you care about?

We’ve offered up Hirving Lozano for every Mexican game so far, and will do again for convenience, and we think he is one of their key players.

Raúl Jiménez is one to watch too, only to see if he can turn around his lack of goal scoring for Mexico.

For Saudi Arabia they will need the duo of Salem Al-Dawsari and Saleh Al-Shehri to fire for them to get the win that will guarantee them passage to the knockout stages.
