A devoted fan of soccer/football has gone on a massive rant about fairweather Australian fans.
Speaking on his Beautiful Game Down Under fan podcast, Canberran Ivan Kowalski (born in Canberra but of Polish descent though his grandparents) called out the “bandwagoning bogan d***heads” who only follow football for two weeks every four years.
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to see the Socceroos on the world stage, but I am so sick of these idiot bogans who pile on every world cup and think they’re suddenly experts on the Beautiful Game!”
Ivan has been a diehard football fan since he was a kid, following the Poland team (even going back to Poland to watch the national team play a few times), while also playing for the BelSouth Football Club for the last 20 years.
“I saw a bunch of Aussies at a pub last night watching the Tunisia game. They were all dolled up in their stupid Socceroos scarves and football jerseys that they probably bought a few hours earlier. They don’t know what they’re cheering for! They just want an excuse to get pissed!”
Ivan continued on this rant for 10 minutes, with his co-host happy to sit back and let him keep going.
“By all means, support the Socceroos, but don’t pretend that you know who any of the players are. I guarantee you they’ll lose interest when they’re knocked out and they’ll go back to their bloody Rugby, Aussie Rules, or cricket and continue ignoring the Beautiful Game for another four years. They probably don’t watch the A-League either. I’m gonna start saving up so I can go to America for the 2026 World Cup and escape all these f*****g bandwagoners! Though the Yanks probably won’t be much better.”
