KICKOFF – THURSDAY 24TH NOV – 13:00 (QATAR) 10:00 (UK) 21:00 (AEDT)
1’ Min Switzerland started off quite sharply, with an attack down the right that leads into a corner within the first minute. While the corner was unsuccessful for goals, we loved the new corner move where the attacking team has a plant at the near post and they simply duck down under the ball. Innovation, so Swiss.
6’ Min Cameroon get their first chance of the match with a free kick about 10 metres from the penalty box. It doesn’t lead to a goal, but good that Cameroon have got an early taste.
10’ Min What a chance for Cameroon. Should have scored here. The move started well inside their own half as a defence splitting pass from Martin Hongla found Bryan Mbeumo on the run and his on target shot is saved, but the rebound goes to his Cameroon team Karl Toko Ekambi. If only they had seen the square option of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting they may have scored.
13’ Min. Switzerland have a big chance themselves a few minutes later, Georges-Kévin Nkoudou is ready to shoot on the six yard box before a Cameroon defender simply shoulder charges him off the ball. The flag was up for offside, so penalty goes against Switzerland, but if he wasn’t offside it would have been a penalty for sure.
14’ Min Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting steals the ball on the halfway line from Manuel Akanji and the Cameroon striker charges towards goal but his shot is straight at the keeper who saves the Swiss again.
20’ Min 20 minutes gone in the game and it has been a great contest thus far, with a good focus on attack. If we’re honest this match looked like pure mini Match on paper, but in Australia you can’t knock back an early kick off.
29’ Min Cameroon go very close again as Toko Ekambi has another chance saved by the Swiss goalkeeper, who can only push it away but luckily his team mate beats any Cameroon player to the ball and gives a corner.
45’ Min Both sides continue to press each other in attack with a few half chances to score but the score remains 0-0.
45’ +1 Min – A final chance for Switzerland to take the lead just before the break. A cross from a corner sees Manuel Akanji jump best, but his header was just wide. He scored have scored.
HALF TIME – SWITZERLAND 0 CAMEROON 0
48′ Min GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL FOR SWITZERLAND
It didn’t take long for the Swiss to hit the front in the second half. And it is a lovely piece of football. Remo Freuler in the middle of the park sends it out wide to Xherdan Shaqiri who then fires back into the box for Breel Embolo who times it perfectly to score. Nice team goal and 1-0 lead.
SWITZERLAND 1 CAMEROON 0
65’ Min Cameroon get a golden chance to equalise after a free kick is given well outside the box. The free kick delivery is good, the shot at goal from André-Frank Zambo Anguissa isn’t quite as good as it goes softly to the keeper. Almost immediately the same thing happened for the Swiss in reply. This time it was Ruben Vargas who hit the shot, but the Cameroon keeper was well up for the task. It kept Cameroon in the game.
76’ With 15 minutes to go you’d have to think Switzerland are almost home. Cameroon had been good, but have lacked the finishing so far. Well, obviously, they are still nil we tell ourselves.
90’ Min Six minutes of added time togive Cameroon one last chance to snatch a point with a draw. They don’t take the chance and Switzerland take victory in game one of Group G. It was a slightly underwhelming second half if we’re honest, which will explain the lack of comments.

Group G Switzerland v Cameroon Match Preview
Why should you care?
Depends on which time zone you live, we’re not actually sure if you should. If you’re determined to watch every minute of every game live, then be our guest, but with some of the big guns playing around this fixture, some of us need the sleep.
That’s not to say it won’t be a classic Euro v Africa clash with flair and attitude.
Who should you care about?
It hasn’t been the same in the Premier League since Xherdan Shaqiri left Liverpool. So we will enjoy watching him in action for the Swiss.
Bryan Mbeumo is a familiar name to those who follow Premier League and like to be frustrated playing Fantasy Premier League. He’s yet to score a goal for Cameroon in four appearance, but we think he’s due. Well, maybe in the next match as we’ve tipped 0-0 as the score for this game.
