A former Brisbane man has used a holiday to catch up on some classic movies.
Now living in Melbourne, Adam took a quick trip back to Brisbane last weekend, staying at a comfortable but no-frills motel. With only free-to-air channels (and a DVD player) for entertainment, he asked his brother to recommend some movies.
βHe pulled out the Back to the Future trilogy. I was reluctant as Iβm not into sci-fi, but he insisted, saying they were beloved classics that anyone could enjoy,β said Adam.
And Adam was surprised when he sat down to watch the first one.
βIt was really good! The sci-fi stuff went over my head, like what the hell is a βflux capacitorβ, but it was a feel-good comedy, and it was nice to see Michael J Fox in his prime.β
Adam spent the next two nights watching parts two and three – which he also enjoyed -before returning the DVD set.
βMy brother gave me heaps, saying βI told you that they were good! Iβve been telling you for 30 years!ββ
Adam – a graphic designer – copped a further rinsing when he returned to work the following Monday.
βMy mates, who think theyβre all pop culture experts, couldnβt believe it took me this long to watch them. I think they laughed at me for five minutes straight, calling me a βpop culture noobβ among other things. Bunch of nerds!β
Adam has spent the last few days emailing his brother for recommendations, including Star WarsΒ episodes 4-6, E.T., The Godfather trilogy, The Big Lebowski, Indiana Jones (but not the Crystal Skull movie), and the first Jaws movie.
