We’ve taken each team’s form from results since the last World Cup in Russia, overall World Cup results, H2H against their group opponents, all with recency bias and factoring in performance against and in certain regions and world rankings. Nothing like over-complicating something that ends up with a pretty obvious result.

Qatar 2022 Football World Cup Predictions – Overall Ratings
Here’s the full list of our in-house ratings ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
You’ll notice that one team is a fair distance in front, and thus are ranked our specials for the tournament.
From there it is a sliding scale of disappointment.
Qatar 2022 Football World Cup Predictions Group by Group
The Netherlands aka Holland are set to follow in Max Verstappen’s footsteps and top the Group A table, ahead of what could be a long knockout run. They are 6th overall with our rankings, and the group does look easy. Senegal are the only African team in our ratings to escape the group stages, but no Sadio Mane will be a worry. We presume Qatar will not ose the first game v Ecuador out of fear of death, but are likely to offer not much else for the tournament.
This group ended up tighter than we first thought, and Iran i quite the surprise for the second spot. They are our third highest ranked Asian based team for overall ranking, but the only one of those who get through to the second round due to the other groups being harder. Our ratings had Wales second last overall, so no way they are getting our of that group.
If you don’t speak Spanish you’re out in Group C. Of course our figures don’t factor in Robert Lewandowski’s goals, but will they be enough anyway. Saudi Arabia are the whipping boys of Group C according to our ratings, but at least have a good thing going with Newcastle in the Premier League.
France is an easy one – unless they fall into the curse of the last four UEFA World Cup winners being knocked out at the Group Stages. Since our stats couldn’t factor in superstition, we’ve had to stick with the french going through. Denmark is a pretty obvious second place too, in what looks like a very easy pool for the UEFA nations. No offence to Australia and/or Tunisia.
Tough group this, with the big two sharing the spoils and our rating. Japan are unlucky to miss out as the highest ranked Asian side overall, but having both Spain and Germany in your group was going to be tough.
Belgium, who are our third pick overall, top this group easily and will probably leave with three wins from three. Or will they, it’s hard to trust them. It should be their year, but it probably won’t be. Our Group results does leave the very interesting Round of 16 match up between two heavyweights early in Belgium v Spain. Croatia are the other team to go through.
Easy work for Brazil our 100% rater for the tournament. So should be hard to beat in a bit of an understatement.
Cristiano Ronaldo gets some love in 2022 as Portugal are tipped by our rating to top Group H. Portugal should be plenty exciting to watch on paper. Behind that Uruguay are our second pick, but that is a genuine open race for second in Group H.

Group stage predictions are all good and well, but you want to know how that goes into knockout stage yes? Well you’re in luck.
We’ve taken all the numbers from the above ratings, and then added extra fields based on each team’s performances in various stages of the knockout phase. So you may see the rating score change as the stage changes.
Without further delay, here are our final predictions. Brazil of course we always going to win with our 100% rating, but there are a few surprises.
Like Senegal, with their perfect second round record ruining England’s year earlier than usual.
Netherlands knocking off Argentina in the quarter finals.
A big Belgium-Spain clash in the Round of 16 goes the way of Belgium.
And according to us they meet their neighbour Holland for third place.
