Fiji should move into the Rugby League World Cup knockout stages with an easy win over Scotland in their last games of the Group Stages for Group B.
The Fijians are building nicely into the tournament. Beaten but not embarrassed by Australia in the first week, then they poured on the points against a weak Italy side last start.
Scotland come into this game after being beaten 84-0 by Australia, so one does wonder if some of the wind hasn’t been taken out of their sails after being soudly beaten by Italy in game one.
There’s not quite as much superstar NRL talent in the Fiji line up, but there’s more than Scotland’s tally, and not just Kikau, but the one man engine room that is Tui Kamikamica, plus Maika Sivo at the back, Api Koroisau running around in the middle, and even the less known Penioni Tagituimua who was awarded player of the match v Italy.
One thing we love with any Fiji game is the pre match ritual. Just a simple song for everyone to enjoy. Should it’s no haka or other war cry, but we love it all the same.
One thing going for Scotland is that they have won the only game between these sides, although that was back in 2008 when the current relative strengths between these sides was reversed.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Presuming there won’t be too much rotation, then Viliame Kikau is always a man to watch for Fiji. He has been one of Fiji’s best, and stepped up a gear in their recent big win over Italy.
Not to sound all broken record again, but Sunia Turuva is also a player to watch, as he gets his opportunities in the big time at fullback in this World Cup after being stuck behind the many talented players at Penrith. Turuva is currently in the top ten for Run Metres, Post Contact Metres and Tackle Breaks, and has scored a few tries too. We think he will add many tries to his name in this encounter.
Penioni Tagituimua was one of Fiji’s best in their last game and he has held onto the starting hooker role and Api Koroisau can weave his magic from five eighth again like against Italy.
