Like a few games in the last week, this one should be a mere formality. Undefeated table leader taking on a winless minnow.
England were simply sensational in their first game against Samoa, setting themselves up for the group stage win in Pool A.
They were tested a little more against France, but got the job done and prevailed none-the-less, and we presume they look like they are testing out the squad players ahead of guarter final action.
Looking at the stats, it’s been a real team performance from England so far, with very few of their players in the top 10 of any major running or playing stat. The exception being Dom Young who is fourth for run metres and with his easiest game yet to play in the group stages.
Greece have certainly not been hopeless in the Rugby League World Cup thus far. They were quite competitive against France in their first game, but they were blown away by a Samoan side living up to their potential last start. Despite them giving their all, and a few players standing out, you can’t see past a thrashing with scoring a try or two their best hope.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
With some squad rotation we will now see a glimpse of Kai Pearce-Paul in action.
Jack Welsby, who was one of our players of the match from England’s first game v Sampa gets a run at fullback with Sam Tompkins given the night off.
Dominic Young should be among the tries again, and will no doubt cause the Greek side plenty of trouble.
There’s no Billy Magoulias unfortunately, so we’ll have to try harder for a Greek player to watch. The obvious answer is the Rabbitohs halfback Lachlan Ilias, but we’ll suggest a team mate of his Peter Mamouzelos. The Greek hooker is on the fringe of the Rabbitohs side, but we think has looked really good thus far, and one more good game against quality opposition to show that he deserves more NRL game time.
