The Mankad controversy from the third England v India Women’s ODI has taken a surprising turn.
English TikTokker @proudangryfeminist made a video attacking the rule, but not in the way you’d expect.*
“This stupid Mankad rule shows why cricket is the dumbest game! It’s 2022 and the rule is STILL called MAN-kad! Even in a women’s game this backwards sport refuses to let go of its prehistoric patriarchal bullcrap and its hatred of women! Cricket needs to be better! Now!”
But the video was quickly swamped with comments educating@proudangryfeminist on the term’s origins, with one cricket lover – @leftarmorthodox – making a reply video.
“You utter bellend! It’s called ‘MAN-kad’ because it’s named after the cricketer Vinoo Mankad! It’s got nothing to do with cricket ‘hating women!’ Go take your self-righteous soapbox somewhere else!”
@proudangryfeminist angrily responded to the video, which started a slanging match in the comments section. It was fun for a while, but soon got boring, with @leftarmorthodox leaving to make a video about his top five ODI and T20 ‘death bowlers’, which was a lot more fun to watch.
@proudangryfeminist also moved on, making a video about why the Hollywood awards season is biased against women over 40.
