FOOTBALL | 22/23 English Football League Weekly 17th-19th Sept

Below the Premier League is a bustling three tiers of football which offers up as much excitement and good football as it’s richer cousin the Premier League to much smaller fanfare. So as football stat nerds, we’d hate to see the 72 league teams neglected, so offer up our 22/23 English Football League Weekly for 17th – 19th September.

Much like our Premier League previews we offer up our predictions, plus throw in a whole bunch of stats which may help others get their Football League tips under control.

Onwards to the 22/23 English Football League Weekly.

FOOTBALL LEAGUE STATS AND PIECES

Three Teams remain undefeated – Ipswich, Portsmouth (L1) and Leyton Orient (L2). Five teams remain without a win so far Coventry (Championship), Morecambe, Burton (L1), Hartlepool and Rochdale (L2).

None of Preston’s nine games have seen more than 2.5 Goals yet this season. They still lie 12th in the Championship table with W2 D6 L1 record. Their tally of three goals in nine matches is not even the lowest in the Football – that lies with Gillingham with two in eight matches.

On the flip side Preston set the benchmark for fewest goals conceded with just two in nine games. Next best are all three league leaders Ipswich (4) Leyton Orient (4) and Sheffield Utd (5). Preston have kept seven clean sheets.

Coventry, Burton and Forest Green Rovers are the only teams to lose all of their home games so far this season. Sheffield United, Cambridge, Barrow, Leyton Orient and Stevenage have won all their home games. Only Ipswich Town have won all of their away games.
