Welcome to our Fantasy Premier League FPL GW8 Captain Preview + Stats Preview for a week of exciting fantasy football. It may not be a full week of FPL, but there’s a full bag O points waiting for FPL managers, and the Liverpool or not decision has almost been taken out of the hands of most.
Onto this weekend and every Gameweek we take a truckload of stats and compile them into our Captain’s table and then have a score out of 100 who we think should be captain.
Along with the Captain’s Table is a load of key stats for general FPL knowledge, some opinion and a bold predictions or two. Something for everyone.
FPL GW8 Captain Preview – Captain’s Table
Here are this week’s FPL Captain Picks results. A full explanation and full list of the stats and calculations are provided at the end.
Stats are based up to the previous GW except for scoring records v opposition. Where there is no opposition history we have all time Premier League season’s stats (in yellow text).
FPL GW8 Captain Preview Thoughts
HELLO – Erling Haaland or Harry Kane
This is before the Champions League game is played, but we presume anyone who has Haaland will captain them. Ten goals in six games, plus an assist would be almost foolish to bet against. Haaland is equal first for shots on target, and leads the way for shots inside the box. However this week’s opponents (Wolves) are fifth best for shots conceded inside the box, so maybe Haaland won’t get it all his own way.
Harry Kane rockets into calculations for captaining with an outstanding record v Leicester. 19 Goals and 4 assists in 18 matches. Kane’s stats are not that far from Haaland (22 shots and 12 on target). Harry Kane is also equal sixth for Key Passes,.a full ten ahead of Haaland. So if you have Kane and no Haaland, it’s a no brainer.
CALL ME MAYBE – KDB or Aleksandr Mitrovic
KDB is always a good shout for captain, and is even more of a differential these days thanks to his new team mate in Haaland. But a solid 5 goals 2 assists in 7 games v Wolves can’t be overlooked. He is eighth for shots on goal so far this season too. With the usual outstanding performances for Chances (2nd) Big Chances (1st) and combined touches inside the final third and penalty box (3rd).
With last weekend’s postponement Fulham miss the Chelsea game, and playing Nottingham Forest this weekend brings Aleksandr Mitrovic right into the frame for captain. No team has conceded more shots than Nottingham Forest this season so far with 104 (only team over 100) and Shots on Target (39 @ over six per game). Mitrovic is already first for shots himself and equal first for shots on target.
GOODBYE
Anyone other than Kane or Haaland
People could be tempted by Son, his stats v Leicester are quite good, but his 2022-23 FPL form is not. And all of the Arsenal v Brentford combatants are yet to score a goal against this weekend’s opponent.

FPL Court Verdict is a new addition, where we get a group of similar players and throw enough stats together to help make a decision on various key players.
With forward more valuable than ever, some big decisions await. Haaland v Kane or both. Toney v Mitrovic v Jesus.
And is Isak worth the gamble?
Hopefully the stats below help you make that decision.
