While Brisbane-based copywriter Peter isn’t too sad about the Queen’s passing, he is grateful for the public holiday on September 22.
While, like most people, Peter was shocked by the news on Friday morning, he hasn’t spent too much time thinking about it.
“I’ve never been a big fan of the Royal family,” he told Everyday News Staff Writers. “Though I liked the Queen a lot more than some of the other muppets around her. Let’s just say I hope we become a Republic quick smart now.”
However, Peter has spent the weekend being quiet and respectful as his parents are loyal Monarchists.
“My Mum has been watching the wall-to-wall coverage on all the commercial channels as well as watching The Crown and The King’s Speech to break it up a bit,” said Peter. “While my dad’s been pulling out his old photo albums from his army days, trying to the find the photo from that one time he met the Queen at an official event in Canberra. And I’ve avoided commenting on any Facebook articles, just incase Mum or Dad read it.”
Though Peter is happy to take the National Day of Mourning in a couple of weeks, even though he has not intentions to mourn or even watch the funeral.
“I’m planning on going down to Melbourne to take advantage of the AFL Parade holiday on the Friday. I don’t like aerial ping pong, but who doesn’t love a good long weekend?”
Everyday News is a brand new general news/parody section of The Gurgler, and definitely not a lame rip-off of ‘The Betoota Advocate’. We swear.
