A fan of quirky Netflix Dramedy Small-Town News has had to re-evaluate their fandom after a negative experience on Facebook.
After finishing the third season, Zooey decided to join a few Facebook groups to talk about the show with like-minded fans.
A quick search revealed three main pages: ‘The Small-Town Newsers’, ‘STN 4 LIFE!’ and ‘The Official Small-Town News Fan Page’.
But Zooey soon realised just how hardcore fans of STN were on these pages.
”It’s insane! People are posting about rewatching the show for the fifth time, taking screenshots of some of the actors in other shows and movies, and putting up daily polls on their all-time favourite episodes. It’s a real love fest. I mean it’s a good show, but don’t these people have lives?” said Zooey. “I was hoping for some spirited discussions about the show, but it’s just a bunch of ass-kissing! Too much positivity can be a bad thing, you know!”
Things really turned sour when Zooey replied to a post about the season two finale, when the local paper was in danger of going under, but was bought out by a media mogul with conservative political views.
”I wrote that the media mogul was an obvious homage to Rupert Murdoch, which felt lazy and had started the cynical political sub-plots that ran through season three before the town’s mayor bought the paper back and things returned to normal,” said Zooey. “Well, I copped it after that! I haven’t been abused that much since my days playing junior netball! Heaven forbid I actually be critical about the show?”
Frustrated by the abuse, Zooey left all three groups (as she was getting sick of the repetitive posts on all the pages). Though, determined to stay in love with the show, she then bought a series of prequel novels from eBay, which will be far more enjoyable than arguing with kiss-arse idiots on Facebook.
Everyday News is a brand new general news/parody section of The Gurgler, and definitely not a lame rip-off of ‘The Betoota Advocate’. We swear.
