We also offer up some alternative tips. These alternative tips are often based on a rugby league, and sometimes something completely absurd, and are aimed at those NRL tipsters who just can’t be bothered.

2022 NRL Round 9 Predictions – Alternative Tips – May Result since 1998

This week’s alternative tips are based on each team’s results in May since 1998.
Since we have recently used some over complicated election based tips or Covid based selections, we decided to simplify.
Whichever team in the H2H has the best winning % in May since 1998 they are more likely to win this week.

2022 NRL Round 9 Barely Interesting Stats
MATCH BY MATCH BARELY INTERESTING STATS
Souths has exactly the same record and sequence of results v Brisbane Broncos for playing them on a Thursday at any venue and on any day as the home team at the Olympic Stadium. Record is (most recent game first) – WWWLLLWW.
Broncos win last Thursday broke a run of 12 straight losses on a Thursday v all teams home and away. They have lost their last five Thursday games away and ten of their last 11. The last time they beat a Sydney team away on a Thursday was in April 2018, against the Rabbitohs.
Going back to the start of 2019, Souths have won 13/15 games v Qld opposition.
Raiders have won five straight v Bulldogs.
Canberra and Bulldogs have only met four times on a Friday since 1998 – Canberra lead that H2H 3-1.
Canberra have won five straight on a Friday at home that stretches back to 2019.
Going back to June 2017, the Bulldogs have won one of their last eight away games on a Friday.
Penrith may well have won XX straight at Penrith Stadium, but it is also 15 games straight v Sydney teams at the same ground.
Of the 19 wins in a row at Penrith Stadium since the beginning of the 2020 season, only two teams have scored more than 12 points – (Penrith 29 Roosters 28 Sept 2020 & Penrith 20 Roosters 14 March 2020). Penrith have kept oppositions sides to under 10 points in eight of those 19 games.
It’s also 14 straight wins as the home team on a Friday for the Panthers.
Parramatta have conceded exactly 40 points in their last two Friday away games.
Manly have won six straight at home v Sydney sides.
Gold Coast last beat the Roosters back in 2016, and it’s been eight straight losses since. It’s seven in a row on a Saturday and 2011 since the last win.
Roosters have won seven of their last eight games in Queensland on a Saturday.
Cowboys have won five straight at home v Newcastle.
Newcastle have scored seven tries in the five and a half games since Mitch Barnett was sent off v Penrith.
The Knights have scored 26 points in their last five games. The next worst is Gold Coast with 54. Melbourne have scored 228 points in the same period.
Newcastle have scored five tries in five games since April 1. The Newcastle Jets A League team have scored 14 goals in their six games since April 1.
Melbourne Storm have scored more points in the last three games than every team in the bottom eight has the entire season so far. And outscored the bottom four’s season points for in the last two games.
The Dragons have failed to beat Melbourne at AAMI Park in five attempts.
Cronulla have won all three Sunday clashes with the Warriors on a Sunday at Shark Park or whatever it was called at the time since 1998.
